Grain Run, Home Depot Run, Unloading Salt, Loading Deck Supplies, Start Of Deck Build, Fire, Grilling - Wednesday

Another bright and early morning yesterday and I was in town primarily to drop off empty barrels but I had one full one to pickup. Now that summer has finally decided to hit we got a nice cloud free sunrise.

It is crazy just how different things are now. The train bridge next to the Steam Plant collects homeless and as I backed my trailer in some chick was covered in a blanket getting high in the alleyway entrance. Once I had backed in and was getting out of the truck she jumped up and headed around the corner to the group of people there. They also tend to shit where ever they please so I have to dodge that as well many mornings.

I just dropped empties and quickly got my ass out of there. This weekend is Hoopfest and most of the downtown Spokane streets will be closed so I am going to have to figure out how to get around it to pickup the next load of grain.

The drive home was nice and the fog in the distance towards Newport looked really cool.

It's nice to have the sun now for soaking in the morning though the days are just getting shorter now, now that the weather has finally turned to summer.

I got the grain emptied out by the bird hut since it was the single barrel. They all spent the rest of the day browsing and scratching around in it.

My Home Depot order was ready around 10am so I got the boys loaded up in the truck and we headed down to pick it up. I got the lumber and the a/c unit but they needed to forklift the pallet of softener salt and went around the back instead of through the store where they would have had to close aisles.

I pulled over to the corner by the garden department and eventually they made it out with the pallet which got slid into the bed of the truck. 1500 pounds was a bit heavy for my truck but it managed okay. The pallet was pretty shitty and a couple bags had gotten damaged so the employee brought me out a couple to replace them. It was a slow drive home as I didn't want to hurt my truck suspension.

We stopped at Maverik to get gas and there was a boat just like mine, only in better looking shape. J actually saw it first and lo and behold it was a Sun Runner. Pretty cool to see one in the wild.

I backed the truck up to the carport and began to move stuff to make room for the salt bags. I found this monster leopard slug which took a quick flight into the creek area.

Once I had made space I started piling the bags on the concrete. I really just wanted them out of the truck to relieve the pressure on the springs. 21 bags stacked 17 to haul down stairs still in the truck.

The 2 damaged bags were really barely broken and I took them down and emptied them into the softener tank right away. Nice getting the 2 free bags and getting the whole damaged bags.

2 bags at a time I carried them down the stairs to the basement. I was sweating like an obese marathon runner in the desert heat and my hat and kilt were dripping. I managed all but 14 bags which @stryeyz had said she wanted to help carry down. 24 of the 38 were stacked by the water system in the basement.

With the truck emptied out I was able to load up all the supplies I need for the deck build as well as the a/c for the studio.

IMG_20220622_131532_HDR.jpg

I drove up to the studio and unloaded everything and had to chase all the ducks back down the hill as they quickly came wandering towards the studio with the gate open for me to drive through.

This wet weather has made the mosquito swarms insane. I walked around the studio and had a mass of them following me all around. I spent more time slapping at them and trying not to get bit than anything else. I grabbed my big fan and will use it today to keep them at bay.

My first task was to remove the pallet I had for the deck and to remove the pier blocks. I measured out 3 feet and 4 feet from the studio to get an idea where the pier blocks will be placed.

I made the 16 foot beam which will support the deck atop the pier blocks.

IMG_20220622_151742_HDR.jpg

Next I had to trim up the siding as I had left it long and the new 2x6 wouldn't fit right.

IMG_20220622_153024_HDR.jpg

I put up on 2x6x12 and set it so there is 55" for the long side of the deck and 43" will be the depth of the end by the door. This also gives me an idea of how high the beam will need to be set to support.

IMG_20220622_155939_HDR.jpg

I built the 12 foot beam for the door end and set it to the side. By this time is was about 4 pm and I was worn out. I was hot and tired so I called it for the day. I headed in for a beer and to cool off in the now a/c cooled house.

IMG_20220622_155952_HDR.jpg

I got a fire going again in the pit which has helped to deal with the mosquitos and R kept trying to split wood, this time with the hatchet.

IMG_20220622_180344_HDR.jpg

I tossed dogs on the grill for dinner and toasted the buns right after.

IMG_20220622_180510_HDR.jpg

I headed out to soak early as my body was beat from the day. By 9 I was getting out and it took another half hour before the birds were ready to be put to bed. I had to kick the turkeys all of the pallets and usher them into the hut which was a bit easier than carrying the fools.

IMG_20220622_193421_PANO.jpg

Today I am going to keep working on the deck for the studio. I have to harvest all the spinach as it is bolting and flowering as well as all the radishes which are doing the same. The other a/c unit will deliver today for the pantry and I have to work on installing both of them, which may take priority over the deck for the time being.

I have a supply of list staked ready to start doing just that. Likely be a lot of freeze dried stuffs as it transits far better and cheaper. Also Gab marketplace is opening up which gives access to the patriot movement.
