Harvests, Culls, Welding, Building Trail and Gate, Cutting Wood, Hike, Repair - Tuesday

Thankfully my thumb didn't get broken and it is just the swelling beneath the nail that is painful. Yesterday morning it was feeling a lot less swollen and I was able to use my hand a lot better during the day.

Only 7 pounds of squash but there are a bunch that will be ready today.

A spider has a nice orb web on the end of the tool shed. It was hard to get it to show in the bright sun and shadows.

I pulled the way too overgrown radishes from the spinach row. The spinach is all done now and I need to clear the 3 rows and salvage what I can of the plants.

One of my gates to the garden keeps popping the spring and I decided to try a tack weld to keep the spring from losing the metal plug that holds it to the bracket. It was a very tight little area I had to work and I managed to get a small bead of weld on the spring and a little bit on the plug. I have it reinstalled and will see if it will hold now.

The pole beans and cucumbers needed to be trained again onto the wires. One of the cucumber plants has a cucumber on it that should be ready to pick within a few days.

The bean rows had a smattering of ripe ones that I picked which gave me just over 2 pounds. I ended up with just shy of 10 pounds in the cooler.

Hauled tools up the hill a bit then got started on the trail. It had been overgrown and I want an actual trail path so I took the pick, rake, and shovel to the hill and leveled out a path for part of the trail.

I got hot and dripping sweat so I went to cool off before gathering the things to make a gate at the top of the pen. I cut a 5 foot length of the field fence on the way up.

I cut the fence to the sheep pen, pounded a fence post in and wrapped the fence around it. The other side of the fence got wrapped around a tree and the gate piece got attached to the tree side. The post side opens and is not super tight so @stryeyz can get it open.

After another short break to cool off and to eat something I headed back up the hill with the chainsaw again and cut up one long downed tree that was across the path and then I hacked at the big more recent tree.

I got the top of the tree cleared of where the trail will be running and I can now move all the branches and debris. The big tree is still really green and gave the saw a bit of trouble.

I had been meaning to do it all day but finally got to moving some of the chips to the birds. I wheelbarrowed a load of chips to the pallet hut and spread them out inside, then I spread a layer in the brooder hut.

Once @stryeyz got home from work we went for a hike up the hill and around the sheep pen. One of the juvenile bald eagles flew right at us then up and around and landed in a tree not far from us.

Beneath the nest tree I found the remnants of a rabbit leg and down at the south end of the pen I found this rabbit hair scattered around the ground. Super soft hair and spread around in tufts.

I went to get beans to go with dinner and had to spend a few minutes fixing the handle to the cooler. I removed the short screws and put in 2" ones that have the handle super solid now.

The tub was rather hot so I got the hose in it while we soaked to cool it off a bit. I need to do the same today to get it cooled back down as the thermal creep is a bit large sometimes.

Today I am going to work on the trail some more after picking in the garden. This evening we are going fishing for the cub scout meeting and it will be just a couple minutes north at Bear Lake. I also will be getting everything ready for Thursday as the boys and I will be leaving the house super early to head up to Art's where we will tow his sail boat down to the Columbia river then go sail for the day. I need to have food and everything ready tonight so we can just get up and go since it is over an hour drive there.

Glad your thumb is better! The trail looks good! When you mentioned cooling off, I thought of your creek. Haven't heard mention of it this year for quite a while...

My little squash I had coming, something happened to them. They stopped growing and are spotty. :((
