Recouperation, Harvests, Hike, Watch - Monday

Yesterday morning was rough. My thumb was super sore, swollen, and extremely touchy. Every little bump and touch of it shot insane pain throughout the digit. I was so sore I couldn't make my way out to soak for the morning. It was cloudy for much of the morning which kept the temps cooler for the day. I managed to get my post typed out then the boys and I watched last weeks Deadliest Catch before I finally headed out to the garden to pick the squash. I managed to pick 19 pounds which has me near 60 pounds in the cooler. I have it listed now for the co-op but we will be using some in the freeze dryer.

Our raspberries are ripening and the 2 types are rather distinct from each other. The 2 bushes are putting off smaller berries with larger individual pieces but the other bush is putting off much bigger berries. There is really not enough for anything other than munching them off the plants.

Around noon I got my cart and umbrella setup at the top of the 2 rows of beans and scooted along for the first time this season. I got a full bucket by the end which ended up a bit over 7 pounds. There are a couple of other rows that have to be picked today which should get us to about 10 pounds total.

I got another half pound of cherries from our tree. The Chelan tree is finally giving us some and the Black Tartarian is the one that has given us nearly 3 pounds of cherries this year.

Our orders arrived from Amazon day and I got our bug zapper setup in the kitchen. My extra boxes of produce bags and twist ties got put away, Nitrile gloves put in the kitchen, and @stryeyz stuff set on the corner of the bed.

I got my new Garmin watch and am rather impressed with it. It is the Instinct Solar v1 which on a full charge is showing me 20 days of battery life left on it. As much as I am outside the solar charging aspect will be really helpful to keep it charged a lot better. I spent some time setting it up and figuring out all the different screens and reading through the instructions. Once @stryeyz was home we went for a walk up the hill and around the sheep pen.

Soaking was nice as I had missed the morning. I had my thumb in a splint for much of the day largely to protect it from any bumps and found myself having to hold my hand above my head to get the throbbing to subside. My thumb is far better this morning and is not nearly as painful to the touch. I have far better range of motion on the tip but it is still really swollen.

True story.. I've never worn a watch. I'm never late for anything either.

Less about the time of day and more about metrics. It's handy seeing my sleep record to compare against my subjective feeling during the day.

Hello @flemingfarm
I admire what you're doing here, and I was pleased to see your cart and umbrella. It's so important to shield yourself during these scorching temperatures.
A Garmin that's solar chargeable and holds power for 20 days? Awesome! ... and to know that you figured it all out is a plus too. I have the Garmin music I believe. I HATE figuring out gadgets like that, so I DON'T dare to touch a wrong button.🤣
I live on a boat, and my watch needs to be charged every 3 days... so I parked it for the time being, as I'm conservative with my energy consumption :))

I have had up to 14 rows 50 feet long of green beans in prior years and had to use the garden cart to save my back. There is no way I would be able to harvest them all without it.

This Garmin is pretty slick. Yesterday I was in the sun so much that it kept the watch nicely charged. Even with notifications on and pinging most of the day. You might look into it if you have trouble with charging yours.

Cheers for that! I like the idea of both the cart & umbrella, plus the power of the Garmin. Sounds perfect!
Thanks for taking the time to add this info, I appreciate it very much:)))

They are super tasty, just not nearly enough of them. Hopefully next year the explosion will happen.
