Squash, Eagles Debris, Digging Treasures, Hot and Tired - Monday
Slow start yesterday morning as I am still feeling rather run down. I need to snap out of it a bit since the heat wave is here I need to be out earlier in the day so I can do stuff in the cooler places in the afternoon.
Marigolds are starting to bloom finally around the garden. I should have a mix of orange and yellow when they are all blooming.
The bee was too fast and escaped the flower before my phone would take the picture.
14 pounds of squash added to the cooler. I need to check with the co-op on potential sales this week so I can get the stuff out of the cooler.
I went for a wander up the hill and around the base of the eagle nest tree I found the piece of a fish head which was a quite large fish when it was alive.
Also beneath the tree was this owl pellet. Most likely a great horned owl judging by the size of the pellet and that they are larger birds more likely to be less afraid of the eagles, especially at night.
I was tromping through the woods and stopped short as I almost stepped on this gopher snake. It was startled but it slowly moved off under the trees. Probably about 2 feet long.
My irrigation line across the creek that waters the arbs somehow got nicked. I noticed the ground wet where it shouldn't have been and found what looked to be a tooth puncture of the line. I went up to the garden shed and got a coupler to repair it.
It was hot in the afternoon and I decided to take a cultivator up the hill to the garbage patch to work on digging up more of the trash.
I was rather surprised to see an original Transformer pop out of the ground. I remember this one on commercials from when I was a kid. It is worse for wear with the metal pieces being crap but the plastic is still in fairly good shape considering.
Unbreakable seems like a challenge to me.
Of all things a crossbow string came out of the ground. I almost missed it and raked it up with other stuff but the loop tied ends caught my attention. It is surprisingly still strong feeling and I am going to see if it will fit my cheap old crossbow that has needed a string for years.
I found some other old Lego pieces, rubber screw on feet, a Thundercats Ho ring, and small knickknacks.
For dinner I went through the gardens and found 4 more cucumbers that were large enough to pick.
Made it out just before the sun went down.
Today starts 5 days of over 100F. I am going to get my picking done early then anything else I can before the heat really sets in. Still need to wash clothes as all my weedeating clothes are disgusting, I have a spot for a landing on the hillside by the trail that I want to rough out as it will take a bit of digging to get a level pad there.
