Tree Chipping, Tree Cutting, Meat Grinding, Fire, Smashed Thumb - Sunday

Later morning yesterday after our later night. It was quite bright out and I didn't stay out soaking for very long.

The squash had another 7 pounds and the smaller plants are all starting to get flowers forming.

I spent a while before noon hiking up the hill and dragging down piles of saplings and branches. I hauled 3 piles down and dropped them by the chipper. I wanted the stuff staged close by so I could just feed the machine.

There were a bunch more saplings and trees that I wanted down so I got the chainsaw and hacked down a bunch and lopped them to sizes that I could chip.

It only took about half an hour to push everything through the chipper and it more than doubled the size of the chip pile.

I was completely soaked in sweat and completely dirty. I headed or the house and rinsed myself off outside in the cold water before going in for a shower.

@stryeyz got the turkey thigh meat all off the bones and the fascia removed so the boys helped run it through the grinder. We got about 2 pounds per bird of the ground

The ground was put into one pound amounts in ziplock bags, water poured into each bag to cover the meat then put to the milk cartons and then to the freezer.

The same was done with the bags of breast meat. The water is essential in keeping the meat from getting freezer burn and allows the meat to be stored for much longer.

I have a bunch of trees that I am going to cut down to the left of the picture. a bunch of fir trees that would grow to shade my garden.

Had the boys get a fire going mid afternoon and I had to stoke it again before I could grill turkey again.

Before I grilled @stryeyz and I went for a walk up on the hill and made it to the end of the property and then back to the house.

I grilled the turkey and @stryeyz made rice and fries which made for a delicious meal.

J has made paper mache on balloons and last night he hung the older one for a pinata.

After dark I was trying to close the screen door behind me quickly but I managed to get my right thumb caught in it and it mashed it good. I put ice on it for a while and sleeping sucked since I kept waking up and having to move my arm so my hand was above my heart to slow the throbbing pain. My thumb is swollen and the nail got a blood spot under about half of it. It makes doing just about anything with my right hand difficult. Needless to say my day is not going to be super productive while I nurse my thumb.

Good thing you got all the saplings down and chipped before the thumb incident...
