What if they are all not even half as intelligent and reflected than one would expect? There is no reason to believe people in power are less prone to mis- and disinformation, not to speak of normal human error. We might just experience right a peak in moronic acting by the world's elites.

Moronic leaders have their roles to play. They are easier to steer by those who really have the power. And those are generally pretty smart individuals. That doesn't mean they are interested in doing good, or what we perceive as good.

My question was/is: Can we really assume those who control the puppets to be smart?

Hmmm, I believe if they are first-generation puppeteers, they must be, in their own way. If they inherited their position, this is not always the case.

But the thing with smart people is that they sometimes overcomplicate things. If they are both smart and able to find simple solutions, that's most likely a better combination.
