A bit of disruption in the rental market incoming today (announced)

avatar

During today's (Tuesday) maintenance window for Splinterlands, small fees will be added for listing cards on the card and rental markets. The fee is minuscule (1 DEC or 1 credit per listing), but for someone with lots of cards rented out and who is used to updating prices regularly, they add up.

Rental services won't be working for a while after this change is implemented until they made the necessary adjustments and tests, so make sure you act accordingly.

There is also a 30-day expiration time added to listings on both the rental market and the card market.

I've linked this post before, but for reminders, here's where all the details are explained:

In most cases, these changes should not have a big impact on us, while I understand the benefit of reducing the load on Splinterlands servers.

If you are using a rental service to rent out cards, it is a good idea to make sure all of the cards you want to be rented out are on the market before the maintenance window starts.

Splex, the service I use to manage rentals, already announced how will they handle it, and the rent golem will likely be unavailable for a few days, while they update and test things out.

This is an extract from their discord message:

If you use Splex for renting out cards, that is for you. If not, you should check how things will work out with the service you use.

Thanks for the heads up, @gadrian! I am actually divesting from Splinterlands.
I just don't have the time to put into it.

I took all the cards off the market a few days ago and SplinterRents is going offline temporarily. It looks like there will need to be some changes and I also need some time to see how things work out for a while first before I start renting out cards again.

You already took cards out, but as long as you don't re-rent cards already rented out when the change was made, no fee is taken.

When can I rent out my cards? 😅 The renters I think are happy with the DEC I pay every time I play. I observe that playing Splinterlands recently is costing me too much SWAP.HIVE, which is supposed to go either to #LEO or #CTP.

Do you want to rent out your cards or rent cards to play with them?

If you want to rent out cards, maybe you should wait for a few days, unless you rent them out manually and haven't authorized any service to rent out your cards for you. If you use a service, it's best that you wait until they are stable after the fee was introduced.

If you want to rent the cards to play with them, I don't have experience with that, but maybe you should consider season rentals because you won't have to check every day if you still have the cards to play with.

Just kidding. 😅 My card holdings are still small to be rented out. Though I am paying SWAP.HIVE every time I play, somehow both the Brawl and the EOS rewards compensate for the rental cost. Perhaps, once I reach 500k CP, that's the time I will start renting out the cards I will not use in playing the game.

You should stake SPS. That will likely replace CP as league limitations in the future.

Is that so? I now have 4k plus. My goal is to reach 10k.

CP will definitely be replaced with something else.

Staked SPS was hinted as a possible alternative. If that will not be the chosen alternative it will still be very useful for staking on players, whenever that option will come out.
