Hive PUD - 1 February 2022

It's the first of the month, and many people on Hive celebrate with this occasion the Hive Power Up Day - a day when you power up some HIVE to your account, as small or big amount as you wish to.

Over time, I haven't marked this day very often. Mostly because I don't like to wait. When I have some HIVE that I want to power up, I do it. Which means this operation is regular for me throughout the month. Especially now that I have a primary HIVE Power target for 2022.

For example, throughout January, I powered up HIVE 17 times for a total of 1011.286 HIVE. Yesterday I purposely didn't power up, so I can do it today, on HPUD day.

I only had 105.120 HIVE liquid, so that isn't a major power up, but every bit counts. And when done repeatedly and consistently, you can see the amounts pile up.

Besides the obvious benefit of earning more curation rewards (or other rewards if delegated) and increasing you influence on the platform, there is another potential benefit to HIVE Power.

Since liquid HIVE and powered up HIVE are held separately (actually HIVE is transformed in another internal token called VESTS when it's powered up), one can treat them as separate accounts, for different purposes. Powered up HIVE is a long term holding, while liquid HIVE can be used for short term swings, to withdraw or to use for other opportunities that arise. And to move funds between the two accounts, one needs to either power up if one wants to add to the long term portfolio or power down if one needs some liquidities.

Having HIVE powered up (or HBD in savings, to some extent), can prevent one from taking rushed decisions, but at the same time one may lose some short term opportunities. I believe for the latter and for deep liquidity, an AMM system would be great for HIVE.

Just wondering, if you still power up regularly, do you have the habit of saving HIVE for the monthly power up or you'd rather power up whenever you have liquid funds?
