Polygon (Matic) and the Congestion Nightmare

avatar

As most of us come from a feeless ecosystem (Hive), when we can't have that, we go for the next best thing: low fees. Right?

That's how BSC appeared as a reaction to Ethereum's exaggerated fees. That's how Polygon (Matic) came to being, to show CZ they can do it with 10 times lower fees. Otherwise, all three are Ethereum Virtual Machines, more or less centralized.

I went out to explore BSC when CubFinance came out. When Polygon started to become popular, I moved some test funds there as well.

I tried out various apps on Polygon, but ended up on Adamant for the passive experience.

And passive it was. I hardly gave it a look from time to time. Recently, I wanted to see how things were going on Adamant.

Surprise! Two of the four pools I was in were no longer incentivized on the base platforms. So I was earning nothing on them, for who knows how long. Not a passive thing after all, it's at least somewhat hands on.

Luckily we are talking about minimal amounts, that's why I could afford to let them unattended for a long time.

Ok then. I needed to get them out of there.

Another surprise! Congestion is a nightmare these days on Polygon, and most likely the low fees and probably lots of bots have a big part in that.

I tried to get out of the LPs on Adamant for a long time, and eventually succeeded after using a 50 gas fee.

But then another thing. QuickSwap didn't see my LPs that were on that app. I even tried "importing" them. Nothing worked.

QuickSwap couldn't even list its own pools. And I waited, trust me, a long time for that.

So their interface was useless. That was discouraging, since QuickSwap is one of the biggest apps on Polygon.

Metamask had issues importing the balances on Polygon at some point.

What finally worked was... Zapper.

That's an aggregator app. I used it to see the LPs I tried to get out of, because I couldn't see it any other way.

Looking around, I found out that I could remove liquidity from any of the pools I was in and Zapper found (Cub Finance is not on Zapper yet, btw). And that's how I did it. Removed liquidity from QuickSwap using Zapper... That's not pretty at all. Even if the process on Zapper is very simple.

Now I'm sitting with the tokens in Metamask (still on Polygon), wondering what to do next... Wait for PolyCub with these test funds, risking that Polygon may become unusable by then? Move to another platform that handles congestion better?

I don't understand why we're excited to take Cub to Polygon?

I believe it's a matter of not letting dev time go to waste. At the time when decision was made to pursue the Polygon avenue, it was a very popular one. And it was easier to pursue since it's also EVM, like BSC and Ethereum, so coding is quite similar. In retrospect, and knowing what we know today, maybe a different platform would have been a better option. But that would have taken longer to develop, most likely. And we can almost hear the "wens" overwhelming Khal.

With the Liotes project we were planing to jump on the polycub wagon but it's interesting to read about your experiences there. We don't know how nice we have it here on hive...

We don't know how nice we have it here on hive...

No, we don't appreciate this enough... So far it has been incredible, even when Splinterlands rise caught everyone by surprise and a few bottlenecks were revealed.

With the Liotes project we were planing to jump on the polycub wagon but it's interesting to read about your experiences there.

I will probably participate, despite the congestion issues on Polygon. But "home" will still be Cub Finance.

Thanks for sharing your experience! As Achim said, we are planning to invest in PolyCUBs when they come alive, but it's good to be prepared... I didn't do any special things on Polygon, and to be honest, I have created a wallet yesterday, transferred some MATIC from Tribaldex to my Metamask wallet, and that went OK...

I was thinking to try some of the farms on Sushi, or Adamant as you tried, but I didn't do it yet... I'm still accumulating MATIC and filling my Polygon wallet for CUBDefi :)

My biggest issues were with QuickSwap. Adamant went ok once I increased the gas fee enough.

As far as I know, I'm not the only one disappointed by Polygon lately because of these congestion issues.

I have just added liquidity on SUSHIswap and it was slow when I had to do swap and a couple of glitches, but it worked in the end... I have tried that Zapper app after that, but it didn't recognize that POOL (probably not supported pair or something similar)

Anyway, I see what are you saying about congestion...

That's the best thing to do, to test things out before the craziness that will be immediately after the airdrop begins.

Hmm, you're not the only person in the community talking about Polygon congestion.

This airdrop is going to frustrate a lot of noobs I feel...

That might be true. I suggest everyone who wants to participate on PolyCUB, to take their time BEFORE the airdrop starts to see how things work on Polygon, so they don't get stuck and frustrated. Although this is only preparation, it doesn't guarantee it won't happen anyway.

Yes, POLY definitely has problems of it's own to deal with. I've heard from more than one source that their LP's have a much higher risk of rug pulls than most. I'm not very tech savvy but I'm assuming Khal has done his due diligence on this stuff and the smart contracts will be done right. I guess I don't know how much "control" one side or the other would have on these. Hopefully the dollar signs don't cause corners to be cut because these need to be secure above all else in my opinion.

That said, I'm certainly going to participate in these to some extent. POLY has it's track record but Khal has his as well. I'll trust Khal. As @edicted just said, Khal is putting his money where his mouth is. He's been right a lot.

Plus, we're still so very early in all of this. Worst case in my mind is we just make ridiculous APY's for a year or two until Khal gets it where it needs to be. As long as you're not putting in short-term money, this seems like a no-brainer to me.

Yep, despite the congestion issues Polygon has, I'll participate on PolyCUB as well. Thanks for your comments!
