Ragnarok & SPK Network Snapshot Coming Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the day many of us on Hive have been waiting, talked about, raved and acted upon for months. The snapshot day.

Initially known as the snapshot day for the first of 12 monthly claimdrops of LARYNX miners of the SPK Network, more recently Dan revealed that he has funded and had the original idea for a new game called Ragnarok, and the same snapshot will be used to drop game NFTs to Hivers.

The news caught everyone by surprise, especially since there was no mention of the game till it was almost completed (highly unusual in the crypto world, isn't it?) and that the team includes more than a few people. If we add to this that they intend to make the code open source and the game self-sustainable and decentralized, that's a new level of Web 3 gaming.

The snapshot will be for native Hive holders, in all its forms: liquid, staked or in savings.

SWAP.HIVE doesn't count directly. You'd need to rely on Hive-Engine team to claim the drop and distribute it to SWAP.HIVE holders and to diesel pools liquidity providers, if one pair is SWAP.HIVE. While this may happen, I'd rather keep things simple and avoid potential complications.

Hive on exchanges is claimable by exchanges. If they'll claim the NFTs and furthermore if they'll choose to distribute them to the clients holding Hive, these are different matters. I have no Hive on exchanges, but if I had I would promptly withdraw it to my Hive wallet.

I don't know how many LARYNX tokens one would get for their Hive holdings, but since LARYNX is divisible, it doesn't hold as much of a problem as for Ragnarok NFTs. Since NFTs are not divisible, you either get at least 1 or you don't, and you get fixed numbers.

The question was asked in the AMA. What is the minimum amount of Hive one needs to receive one Ragnarok NFT?

The answer was not an exact number, but a range:

The rough estimate will be between 17-170'ish Hive per NFT on the safe side, but this is not set in stone and could be changed at any time.

So, that means 200 Hive could mean 1 NFT or 10. Hard to say at this point. We'll see tomorrow or the following days, I suppose.

What do you have to do for this snapshot?

Here's what I'll do. You are free to do the same or not.

1. Today (before the snapshot) [time sensitive]: Withdraw Hive/SWAP.HIVE to Native Hive and centralize it to one of your accounts, as much as possible

2. Wait until confirmation of the completed snapshot is published by @spk.network and @ragnarok.game

3. After the snapshot is completed it is safe to move Hive or do whatever you want with it

4. [Action required] You need to claim your drop, according to instructions which will be published on @spk.network and @ragnarok.game. If you don't claim your drop within a certain period of time (it will be announced, and it will be plenty of time), you will lose your claimdrop!

After the game NFTs will be claimed (or not) there will be a while before the game will be playable in a public test phase. The ETA given in the AMA was "soon".

What I understood is that the public test phase will simulate a full Ragnarok tournament, which is a year long, before NFT holders will be able to vote to fully release the game.

During the test phase, development will still happen as well as bug hunting. I'm still curious if the full economy of the game will be active during this test phase. If yes, the costs of playing will be rather high and the rewards at the end may not be enticing except for the elite players. If no, that gives a free pass to testing and optimizing bot accounts. From Dan's discourse about what the game is intended for and the structure of rewards, I'm guessing door number one is what we'll have during test phase too.

But there's still enough time to learn about everything. I just hope "soon" means maybe Q1? :)
