What Type of Content Would You Write When You Are Under Pressure?

avatar

As you know if you have been reading my posts for a while now, I publish once a day for more than a year now. I don't know what your posting rhythm is, or if you publish long-form content at all, but I have a curiosity.

If you publish posts regularly - and if not, if you could put yourself in this situation and see through these eyes - I'm curious what type of post you prefer to write when you are under pressure (usually time constraints).

I have a few options too, but you can choose whatever is appropriate in your case. Here are the options I included:

  1. I prefer to free-write something
  2. I prefer to write an update where to fill in a lot of numbers/information, but which often requires less research or imagination to write
  3. I prefer to write a post on a given theme and conditions
  4. I prefer to write posts under pressure; I write some of my best pieces this way, regardless of any other conditions or types of posts
  5. I don't post anything - I am blocked when I'm under pressure

Personally, I feel more comfortable with 1. or 2. when I'm under pressure. Although, in my case, 2. can mean something like my Hive goals post, which I use for tracking my goals over time and to stay accountable and, why not, to show an example to others. But besides the goals post, I actually have to do some operations before I update the numbers and take the screenshots. Overall, not one of the posts that requires the least amount of work to write. But it can be easier to write than others where I may struggle to write every single paragraph.

I'm not one who writes easily despite my inclination for long-form content. Two of the posts I wrote this week took me at least 5 hours to write from research to publishing. For someone who writes daily, that's a long time to dedicate to a single post. I know what some will say: who says you got to write daily? Do you want the idealistic or the pragmatic answer?

Idealistically, keeping the posting level on the chain at a consistent level it is a way to show the core community is here to stay, regardless of price or FUD. We still need more new members to see anything beyond that.

Pragmatically, Hive rewards are optimized for 24 hours (not for 7 days!). Any curation beyond the first day has the reward slashed significantly. That's why we will rarely see upvotes going for posts after 24 hours since their publishing time. Combined with pretty bad content discovery, one who posts less often than daily is likely missing on potential rewards, unless the account is being truly followed by big curators who either automatically or manually vote for his or her content, or the author knows how to "market" his content (this doesn't mean traditional marketing: frequenting the right communities and choosing the best tags can be effective) .

Hmm, where I started and where I landed. Free-writing isn't very consistent in my case.

So, what type of content would you rather post when you are under pressure!

I like the point where you have said that I am blocked whenever I get stressed. I also do the same. Same with my chats with my friends. I blocked them.

Huh... That's a bit more complex question than it looks... It depends on what "kind" of pressure it is. 😃 In general, I would try to stick to my schedule and do the post which is scheduled... I mean, "type" of the post... I have 2 days of the week where I'm doing certain posts whatever pressure is, or not...

But, on other days, I would probably do the 1) option, the free-write style post... Maybe exactly about the pressure... or how to cope with it... or something similar... 😃

Regarding 24 hours for a post, you are partly right... Yes, you will rarely receive upvotes after 24 hours (despite the fact that it's not as big a handicap as people are thinking), but I leave another 24 hours for replying to the comments and engagement around the post... Sometimes, it takes significantly additional time and I can't pass the page to "the new post", so that's my "excuse" for skipping a day between posts... 😃

Actually, that's my case too. If it's the day when I usually post my fixed posts, then the choice is pretty much made.

Well, it's 1/2 after 24 hours and 1/8 after 3 days, if I remember correctly, so I understand people not voting after 24 hours. I do the same unless I don't check the time of the post for some reason (it happened to me to "vote" a couple of times on posts outside the voting window because they were shared in newer posts).

While I don't often receive as many comments as you do, I understand what you mean. When interesting discussions are sparked on older posts it is a challenge to keep up with the daily post. But it's not the only time when it's challenging.

I basically can't write a thing under pressure. Maybe just a thread to tell how I feel, but am pretty much consistent and make it to at least two some days.

Yeah, I get it. Sometimes I wonder how good is this pressure for us. But pressure and stress are something we learn to live with in modern societies like they are part of our households. We even feed them.

I have trouble unless there are specific goals behind a post. It made things a bit easier when I have a hive goals update or my weekly giveaway is easy. However, I struggle when there isn't a topic for me to do it on and I end up with quite a few drafts that go nowhere. So I try to have a few backup posts about splinterland battles and it has worked out for a while.

It has happened to me too. It is frustrating if you already have written a bit into the post and you aren't pleased by the result and discard it.

Somehow I don't like to write this kind of post, despite liking Splinterlands. I tried a few times in the past, but I gave up after a while.

Even when I am very sad and don't understand anything, I like to talk about Pakistan politics.

Politics has a way to be easy to talk about and conflictual, even though it rarely leads somewhere useful.

Though not absolutely, I could relate to the 5th option. I hate pressure. When pressured, I tend to move away. Such a situation is stressful for me. I like to write when I feel relaxed and free.

Ah, the ideal situation. To write when we are relaxed and have our minds clear to focus on the writing. It doesn't happen very often for me to be in an ideal situation.

I think any content that decrease my pressure and help others in the tough condition.

That's a great combination. Do you often find this type of content to write about?

It's the same for me. Haha. I do have a mixture of posts where I write from scratch and some that is more of an update. I think it's also a good thing to have different types of content to cater to different readers/followers. Cheers!

That is true. Not everything we write appeals to every reader we have. Keeping the content monotone will eventually bore those who are not interested in it.

If under pressure I would prefer either option 1 or 2. I have been posting only once a week for a couple of years. That has to change.

Yeah, when you have such a strong habit, it is a challenge in itself to break it. Good luck!

Thank you, @gadrian! I did post 3 times so far this week. That's because I divided what could have been one long post into 3 shorter posts.
Have a great day! 😆

Hello @gadrian. I don't post when I'm under pressure especially when I can't focus I can't post. I cut down on my new medicine cut it out actually because it made my joints hurt worse than ever. It's very bad pain and it made my muscles weak. At my age I don't need weak muscles to hold myself up. So I stopped the new medicine for a while, but then I got paranoid really paranoid again so I decided to try one (not two) yesterday. I feel much better much more focused. I took two amino acid supplements with it to keep it from doing the muscle weakness side effect issues. Talking to the nurse at the clinic really doesn't do any good on this insurance. I know myself better than anyone else and have been taking medicines for my chronic depression for 54 years since I was 16 years old. So sorry about all this but it explains why I wasn't writing why I can't. I am also unable to want to share too much about myself right now. I am waiting to get a new pet bird and I hope before the year is over. My pet birds helped my depression a lot but I cannot keep one right now. I could write about my pet birds too. Anyway, have a great week ahead! Barb :) !BBH !CTP

I hope you'll feel better, Barb. But it looks like you have been living with this for many years... From what I understand, you go through periods when it is harder to endure. Don't worry about comments, just take care of yourself!

Hello, @gadrian thank you so much for being kind. I really do want to comment but do have some bad times. I needed to try and take some of this medicine again and it might not be so bad if I take it every other day maybe or every day for a while then every few days. I'm different than a lot of people so I will see what I can do because I do enjoy this a lot at times. It would be nice to do this consistently. Thanks again for your understanding @gadrian 😊💜 I can't wait until my living situation will be better and I can have a bird or 2. The situation right now is not suitable for a bird. Maybe I could adopt a pigeon for a while - maybe not. This bird needs to be able to depend on me the rest of its life. My room is right next to a kitchen and smoke comes in here just a little from the room next door. Thanks again and I will keep trying. Hugs. Barb 😊🤗💜 !BBH !CTP
