Will the World Be Split in Two, Again?

avatar

Ukraine is a pretty big country by size, the second largest in Europe after Russia. It has important natural resources and one of the world's top exporters of cereals as well.

But is it about Ukraine anymore?

On the rubble of Ukraine higher stakes seem to be at play now. Like world domination and challenging of the current status quo.

It's hard to tell if we'll actually end up with two antagonistic blocks in the world. There may still be enough nostalgic old people about the "good times" during the Cold War and the greatness of USSR and communism. And still alive.

After all, Putin is 70. I don't even want to think about the age of Biden. If they were alone, they'd be two grandpas toying with the world. But they are not.

Xi Jinping is the youngster among them, at 68. With his eternal smile, he can't decide to tell the world he's with Putin, but doesn't want his sanctions.

After all, who can sustain China's massive economy, based on exports? Russia? :) Russia had a 10 times lower GDP than China before the sanctions. China depends on its exports to the Unites States just like Europe (still) depends on Russian gas.

On the other hand, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Iran and a few ex-soviet countries have been having their own military and economical alliance called the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation since early 2000s, as a sort of a counter to the NATO and the EU. Strange to see both India and Pakistan in the same military organization, by the way.

Interestingly, I wouldn't have known about this alliance if not with this war.

Have the moves been planned to split the world again, based on ideology and politics and Ukraine was just the pretext found to start the whole thing rolling?

Are we prepared to go back in time 50 years? It's true, there was no internet or crypto back then. Harder to keep people in the dark nowadays. Or maybe it isn't?

I guess everything is speculation until it becomes fact.

That was definitely an easy week-end read. :D

There's an interesting dynamic here. Yes, China depends a lot on exports, but those places also make it difficult to make the products at the same price China offers.

At least I think so, lol!

You mean they are not competitive on price? Yes, that's true, but if China can't export, than price doesn't really matter.

There used to be ussr. I remember when the Olympic was on. Now they are enemies and at war. Exports are important and each country has something the other one needs !

There are also families, part in Ukraine, part in Russia. That doesn't seem to matter when bombs are slated to drop.

At this point, all we can do is cross our fingers and pray this doesn't escalate and even better stops.

Yeah, we'll see. Not that I don't want to, I live next to Ukraine.

I am not surprised that they are working together because they are pretty much both communist countries. I don't think we will be going back 50 years. I also don't trust the China GDP numbers either because they are known to fudge their numbers.

Even if we don't trust their numbers, it is by far the 2nd largest economy in the world. About going back 50 years, it was in terms of antagonistic blocks and clashes of ideologies, not tech advancements. But that might not happen. I would be one of the nightmare scenarios.

I wonder which countries would actually answer the call if an event triggered the cooperation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation ? If I was a leader in one of these countries, I would not trust any other country to fulfill their obligations, and as you mentioned some are semi enemies so it's hard to imagine them side by side in combat :)

I don't see India and Pakistan fighting together in the foreseeable future. About the rest of them, it's hard to say. As I said in the post, I didn't know this organization existed prior to a few days ago.

Honestly, I know too little about these political relationships. I try to avoid watching these news items too much as it mainstream media and you never know what the real truth is anyway.

I'm curious how it will unfold though, hopefully, it won't last too long this whole shit show ..

Right about mainstream media. Plus, now there's war propaganda at play, so even less reliable.

True, that's always the case, only less obvious probably. From what I've noticed, when doing some research, usually what mainstream feeds us, is the opposite of the truth. But I just avoid that, read up a bit here and then but most of what I consume comes from hive lol. I know at least a lot of writers here are a bit more careful than just assuming what;'s been fed is the truth.

From what I've seen in mainstream media, they are mostly focused on Ukraine and ending the war.
