A Celebration Of 80 For One Heck Of A Lady!

Something that I have been pondering a lot lately is how I am still blessed to have three grandparents alive. As I am in my fourth decade of life, it's beyond amazing that I still get to interact with my grandpa and two grandmas😊

And it was with that joyful existential thought in mind that I headed down to Gathered in Post Falls, Idaho this past Saturday to celebrate my grandma's arrival into her eight decade of life.

My Grandma Joyce is a firecracker of a person. At just under five feet tall and diminutive in build, she's always in motion and doing something. My mom has likened her to a banty hen for most of my life, because Grams is always on the move.

Her fried chicken, biscuits and gravy are the stuff of legend, she has the most hilarious propensity for referring to badly behaving humans as SOBS, and I still have yet to meet a person who can outwork her. She's a marvel in that department!

So, it was a pleasure to meet up at the venue that my awesome cousin lined up and celebrate Gram's entry into the eight decade of her life. Lots of folks, both family and friends, were in attendance, and we all spent a few hours talking story and eating amazing cuisine.

Speaking of cuisine, Gathered really knows how to lay out a spread! It's a farm to table kind of joint, and there were plenty of smiles as we all tucked into chicken garlic alfredo, spaghetti Bolognese with meatballs, a fantastical pecan, strawberry, and feta topped salad, and some hearty artisan bread (some of it had sun dried tomatoes in it!) slathered in a magnificent garlic compound butter.

No one left hungry.

And no one left un socialized. The roar of human interaction rushed through my ears as I sat devouring a very delectable, buttery vanilla cupcake while I listened to my great uncle regale me about his pet skunks.

My grandma was all smiles, and during one interlude where I stepped outside to get some air while my brother smoked a cigarette, Grams walked up, took a deep breath, and lit up a smoke.

"So, you having a good time?" I asked her after giving her another birthday hug.

Well, hell yes I am, Sis, she fired off in reply, "It's not everyday you get a bunch of us in a room without a brawl happening.

Indeed it's not. 😆

And on that note, I am signing off for a few days my dear friends. I'm heading off to celebrate my twenty-third wedding anniversary and taking a long overdue, actual break. I'll see you all when I return😊

Happy BDay Grandma Joyce!

So good to see the family gather up to celebrate this very special occasion, it means you all love her and care so much!

I only have one grandmother alive but I always say to my little one that he's very lucky to have 4 grandparents with him still! And I do my best that he spent quality time with them, including the grandparents "from the mainland". Gotta love video chat!

Happy 80th Birthday to your Grandma Joyce! In Italian we say, Cent'Anni. It means may you live 100 Years! What a nice party! So wonderful that families can get together and celebrate like this again.

Glad your grandma's birthday went so well. it looks like the food was wonderful. My favorite grandma died when I was 23, never knew my grandpas as they died before I was born. So you are very lucky!

It was so nice to take a bit of a post harvest, celebratory anniversary break, I really enjoyed it! Of course that means today I am back in the saddle and will be spending the afternoon canning tomatoes and tending to fall homestead chores.

Thank you so much! She really is something lol, I hope I am moving around half as well as she does when I get to that age for sure!

Our anniversary was awesome, I have a bunch of posts lined up reporting on our adventures in celebration, but I have to say, my absolute favorite part was just pausing and taking a bit of a break, I really needed it. That said, I missed all of my Hive and Listnerds peeps bunches, so I am glad to be back.

Haha, I'm quite sure you have your grans genes as you are a busy bee yourself! Good to read you are taking a step back and building in some rest though!

But when you're not here, you are missed! :)

We had a quiet weekend, all three of us are still having a little cold, nothing too serious though, but a little annoying mostly. Trying to shake off the last parts myself, this is always the same lol, school starts and kid brings home some virus :)

She has a long weekend this week though so that's nice..
