At an absolute minimum I like to blog at least every other day. Yes, sometimes life gets in the way and I don't adhere to my posting ambitions, but I have to say I am getting better at not being so hard on myself when such things occur.

That said, this week has been a bit of a challenge.

Because of course I would get a concussion right when I need to have all my faculties engaged. Ugh.

Saturday night when I was over at our friends house for game night, I was attacked by a corner shelf and a glass fish bowl half filled with dice fell off the shelf as I walked by and cracked me on the back of the head as I bent over to put my purse down.

I don't know what possessed the shelf to fall over as I walked by. I never even touched it. You know, I think it was an expression of ancient animosity all things made of wood probably have towards my family. You know, because my dad, uncle, grandpa, etc., were all timber fallers.

Anyway. I've taken a few hits to the noggin in my life time, but this one has knocked me a bit off my axis. It's probably because I am middle aged now that I'm noticing it more.

How I imagine the fishbowl staring at me before it attacked.

But truly, of all weeks, I did not need a four day headache during this one let me tell you.

On Tuesday I had to attend our local library trustees board meeting to see first hand what sort of nightmare all my former co-workers (and dear friends and community members) have been living through. The Neo-puritan crusaders were out in force and I left that four hour meeting with more of a headache but for completely different reasons. (There will be a more in-depth post on this topic later).

Yesterday, while only 47 degrees and windy out, still was the day I had to get the garden beds all laid out, the pea bed prepped, the landscape fabric installed, and the pathways lined with old plant matter. Needless to say I crushed a ton of farm labor yesterday while the hubs graded the road.

Usually I enjoy all manner of things, but while your brain is throbbing in the throes of healing, well, let's just say it made it all a bit more of a challenge.

But, instead of moping or whining about it (Okay, I whined a little bit), I just focused my energy elsewhere and got cracking. Which brings me to today. I now get to go out and plant several row feet of potatoes, peas, carrots, kale, lettuce, and pak choi. Because it has to go in, because it's going to blast into the 60's and 70's next week, because North Idaho likes to do season change like a person who only slams on brakes. Sigh.

On a positive note, either I am getting used to the vice crushing brain pain or it's starting to abate slightly. Being a bit of an optimist, I am going to go with the latter choice. I am pretty sure I am starting to get better, which is nice, because dangit, I got farming, birthday parties, track meets, benefit dinners, and other things to do!

And on that note, I will be back soon with actual posts of depth about our local (and national) library crisis, homesteading scenes, and most likely a couple blog posts about some of the mischief that I know I will be getting myself into this weekend. I hope you all have a magnificent and brain injury free weekend😊

A concussion like that would have laid me low for sure. Never mind attending a meeting and laying out gardens and planting! I do hope you have gotten rid of the pain.

Thank ya! Thankfully is was only a mild concussion, but it still smarted a lot and I had to spend Sunday afternoon in bed. The pain’s much better this afternoon, but I think planting potatoes and peas put me in such a good mood that I wouldn’t notice it anyway lol☺️

They are saying it’s supposed to be in the 70’s next weekend. Since it’s gonna snow tonight let’s just say I’ll believe that warmth exists when I see it ha ha ha!

So sorry about your poor noggin! Was it the restless dice trying to roll themselves? Or a bowl yearning for colorful fish? Whatever, it's the pits.

I promised myself to pay close attention to your gardening schedule this year so I could copycat you. Alas, the garden has not been tilled, and likely won't be 'til after the fence is repaired, and I can't put down the landscape cloth around the edges 'til after the fence is repaired, either. It looks like I'll be planting everything around Memorial Day, as usual. Oh well.

I have no idea what I did to earn the dice and bowl’s malice, but the brain’s feeling a bit better today thankfully. And thank you kindly for the kind sentiments😊

This morning as I drove the Boy to school through the snow, I had a fleeting thought of terror that perhaps this is going to be one of those extended winters, but I do see 70’s in the forecast so there’s hope!

And your elevation is a couple hundred feet above mine, so it's totally cool that you haven't rototilled yet. We will prevail!

Recently my sister reminded me that our grandmother used to plant things according to the phases of the moon, and other obscure signs. Meanwhile, our neighbor in the 1970s used to plant everything on June 1. Both of these women were experienced gardeners of an impressive age, lived in the same area, and had fantastic gardens. With that in mind, I shall take heart and look forward to planting my garden on June 1!

I adore this plan! Seriously, thanks to our long days and usual onslaught of warmth, plants tend to explode out of the ground and do just dandy. I look forward to your start of June garden planting adventure tales😊

That was really bad timing for a shelf and fishbowl to fall on you at a friend's house on game night. I think the dice were jealous they weren't being included in any of the games you guys were playing!🙃 Hopefully your headache goes away for the weekend and you can get all the things checked off your to-do list!

Oh man that sucks!

I know "rest" is a foreign concept for homesteaders in this season, but brain injury really is no joke. You only have one brain, ya gotta take care of it. In between the hustle and bustle, make sure to give it quiet and silence at times. It truly does need the rest to really heal.

I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks so much! My brain is feeling much better, especially after a few nights of hiding in my room in blessed silence lol!

You are so right about rest being a foreign concept to us homesteaders, and in spring the last thing I want to do is rest, but sometimes life throws curveballs at ya, or in my case fishbowls full of dice lol!

I had no idea shelves were so malevolent lol!

Your absence has been noted, but life tends to happen right? And we OG blockchainers tend to always show back up 😊

Mulching in the rain sounds miserable, I hope you passed on that!
