When you are in the unknown, be it a desert, a mountain or other terrain with direct visibility to the horizon, one of your most important duties is to provide food, shelter and fire.

For this technique you should get to know how much time the dark will come.

Sunset is set at different time at different world you should know about it before only.

There is old military equipment that can guide you to the remaining daylight and I will share it with you.

To find out approximately how much light is left for the day, raise your hand to the sun, covering it with your palm (as shown in the picture). Your thumb should be tucked in. Start lowering your arm until the sun appears over it.

Measure the distance to the horizon by placing one hand under the other. To calculate the time, you need to know that the width of one finger is equal to 15 minutes of light. So, if you measure that you can apply your hand three times to the horizon line, then you have approximately 3 hours of daylight left.

One of the disadvantages of this technique is that you will have to look almost at the sun, which is quite difficult, but if you close your eyes, you will cope.
