When I entered my clinic for the evening shift duty, I found a family waiting for the medical staff. It was like 4:25 pm and our clinic opened at 4:30 pm. Hence, all the staff were just coming for duty. When the husband saw me, he asked if I was the doctor. When I affirmed, he told me that there was an accident at his house and his wife got burned on her face!! I saw a lady, quite in distress, sitting on the waiting chair.
I asked a nurse to attend to the patient. In the meantime, I asked him how that happened. She was cooking something in a pressure cooker and somehow the hot content splashed on her face (they used the words “Pressure cooker burst”). Maybe, she removed the top lid inattentively while there was high pressure on it. Whatever the mechanism, she got burned.
The face was quite red and the eyelids started to swell up. The conjunctivae (white portion of an eye) were red as well. She was feeling a severe burning sensation. She was having marked photophobia (can not open her eyes in bright light) in her eyes which prevented me from examining her eyes. It wasn’t even half an hour since the accident took place. It was looking bad to me. Hence, I told them to go to the multidisciplinary hospital where at least an ophthalmologist is available to manage the eye injuries, along with the external skin injury. The husband listened to me and they left immediately to go to the regional hospital.
Because
I have never suffered from a burn injury to this extent. Alhamdulillah.
My family members haven't suffered from similar burn injuries. Alhamdulillah.

I hope the lady was OK. It souds like her injury might be serious. Thanks for sharing.
How unfortunate. You always have to be careful with pressure cookers. I hope the lady is not severely damaged and will be alright.
Thanks for sharing. It does remind one to be careful.
A very interesting yet tragic case, Dr. Hafiz.
Fortunately, you were able to get her to ophthalmology quickly.
It sounds like a very painful burn.

That's so unfortunate of the lady who got burned. I hope there are some medications available?
I learned a new word from you today - "photophobia", thank you.
