Hiccups in the baby

A hiccup is quite common in the newborn and infants. Usually, It is self-limiting and does not bother the kids. However, it bothers the parents to a great extent. Let us know about it.

Hiccups occur due to irritation of the diaphragm. Usually, a collection of gas under the diaphragm irritate it results in producing this hic sound. During feeding, babies may swallow some airs as well which give rise to hiccups.

Normally, it subsides spontaneously. If not, we can do some simple steps as follow:

• Burping the kid
• Changing the feeding position
• Putting a pacifier in the body mouth
• Giving gripe water
