What are the important parameters in a semen analysis report?

Sometimes, patients who are having difficulty in having kids are coming to check their semen. Although there are different doctors to deal with infertility cases, GP doctors have to face almost all types of cases. Today, two patients visited to do their semen analysis tests. They did the test by themselves but I needed to interpret and explain the results.

I have added an image to this post. It is nothing but a report of one of the two patients who did the semen analysis. You can see that there are a good number of parameters in the report. All are necessary to include in a report. However, some of them are more important than others, to have a kid, as a rule. I will highlight those in this post. The information is from the gynaecologist from our clinic, can't be used as a reference.

Of all the parameters, we need the minimum normal value of these parameters:

• Liquefaction time
• Sperm count
• Active motility
• Normal forms

To have a kid, the semen must have:

• Liquefaction time within 30 minutes
• 30 million sperm count
• 30% active motility
• 50% normal forms

You can look at the report again. Clearly, the person has problems.

Anyway, this requirement is recommended theoretically. However, I have a family member who got a kid with less than 5 million counts only.

After all, it is in God's hand.
