La recién concluida entrega del Balón de Oro no terminó sin dramas y temas de conversación. Por supuesto, Christiano Ronaldo no estuvo presente en la ceremonia y eso también generó muchas polémicas. Antes de que comenzara la ceremonia, se acusó a Ronaldo de jugar al fútbol sólo para igualar los números del Balón de Oro de Messi y eso hizo que CR7 tachara el informe de falso y tachara al portavoz del Balón de Oro de mentiroso.

Además, se crearon dos nuevos apartados de premios con los que el Chelsea y Lewandowski se llevaron el premio. En mi opinión, esos premios se crearon por lástima y para compensar a los jugadores del Chelsea que se quedaron sin premio y para compensar a Lewandowski por no haber sido premiado con el Balón de Oro que se merece por derecho.

Este acto de los organizadores del Balón de Oro demuestra, además, que sabían que los jugadores del Chelsea, e incluso Lewandowski, merecían más el Balón de Oro. Son muchos los que se han manifestado en contra del premio y de lo confusos que son sus criterios de elección. No es lo suficientemente transparente y podría ajustarse a la persona que quieren que gane.

Muchos han calificado el Balón de Oro como un premio a Messi y es difícil discutir su valoración. Los organizadores han repartido regularmente el premio a Messi incluso en días en los que no merecía estar entre los candidatos al premio. Este premio mostró claramente cómo Lewandowski fue robado y Messi, en su honestidad, confirmó el hecho de que pensaba que Lewandowski debería haberlo ganado.

Basta de hablar de Messi y de los premios, hablemos de cómo le robaron a Mendy el premio que se merecía por la gran temporada que ha hecho con el Chelsea. Ni siquiera voy a entrar en el tema racista que ha sufrido semanas y días antes del premio, pero sí hablaré de lo que ha sufrido por el simple hecho de ser africano.

Mendy clamó hace días sobre cómo se ha retratado a otros porteros con la camiseta de sus países mientras que él era el raro que llevaba una interior. Eso demuestra el nivel de desprecio que los organizadores del Balón de Oro tienen por África y por los jugadores africanos en general. El premio al mejor portero fue otorgado a Donnarumma y todos sabemos que Mendy fue robado. Kepa habría sido galardonado con el premio al mejor portero si hubiera sido él quien estuviera en el puesto de la portería del Chelsea y hubiera logrado la mitad de lo que Mendy consiguió en el puesto de la portería.

Si bien esta ocurrencia se inclina hacia el racismo y el odio, no se puede discutir que el premio ha perdido su valor y, por supuesto, la chispa que antes se le otorgaba. Muchos se manifestaron en contra del premio, lo que demuestra aún más que la gente empieza a despreciar sus elecciones. No es mentira que fueron estrellas de primera línea las que estuvieron notablemente ausentes de la ceremonia y esta tendencia continuará a medida que el premio siga perdiendo credibilidad.

The recently concluded Ballon d'Or didn’t end without drama and talking points. Of course, Christiano Ronaldo was not present at the ceremony and that generated lots of controversies also. Before the ceremony began, Ronaldo was accused of playing football just to match up with Messi’s Ballon D'or numbers and that resulted in CR7 labeling the report as false and branding the ballon d'Or spokesman as a lair.

Also, two new award section was created with which Chelsea and Lewandowski scooped the award. In my opinion, those awards were created out of pity and to compensate the Chelsea players who missed out on the awards and to compensate Lewandowski for not being rewarded with the Ballon d'Or which he rightly deserves.

This act by the Ballon d'Or organizers further shows that they knew that players from the Chelsea squad and even Lewandowski deserved the Ballon d'Or gong more. So many people have spoken out against the award and how confusing their winner criteria are. It is not transparent enough and it could be tweaked to suit the person they want to win.

Many have termed the Ballon d'Or award as Messi award and it is hard to argue with their assessment. The organizers have regularly dished out the award to Messi even on days when he was not deserving to be among the running for the award. This award showed clearly how Lewandowski was robbed and Messi in his honesty confirmed the fact that he thought Lewandowski should have won it.

Enough about Messi and the awards, let's talk about how Mendy was robbed of the award he deserved for a great season he has had with Chelsea. I am not even going to go into the racist issue he has suffered weeks and days leading to the award, but I will speak on what he has suffered from just being an African.

Mendy cried out days ago about how other goalkeepers have been portrayed in their countries jersey while he was the odd one wearing an inner. That shows the level of disregard that the Ballon d'Or organizers have for Africa and African players at large. The best goalkeeper award was awarded to Donnarumma and we all know that Mendy was robbed. Kepa would have been awarded the best goalie award if has been the one in the goal post for Chelsea and he accomplished half of what Mendy achieved in the goal post.

While this occurrence tilt towards racism and hate, it can not be argued that the award has lost its value and of course the spark that was once bestowed on it. Many spoke out against the award, and it further shows how much people are beginning to despise their choices. It is no lie that they were top stars who were noticeably absent from the ceremony and this trend will continue as the award continues to lose credibility.
