During my college year I didn’t have any favorite courses or lecturers, in a class of over ten persons if two out of those ten persons get an understanding of what is been taught the lecturer assumes that everybody understands. Nigerian educational system can be liked to you preparing cadets for war, Topics aren’t broken down for students to understand, the lecturer chooses the simplest questions and make use of it at examples.

For us to understand better what have been thought in class, we decided to form a studying group, which we have a round table discussion regarding the topic that was taught in class. During this session we try as much as possible to break down everything in tiny pieces, for understanding sake. My college year I would categorize myself as a slow learner, because every topic I am taught especially when it comes to algebra, I am always looking confused and lost.

The lecturer with so many degrees and a author of some mathematical textbooks, he was referred to as the citadel of knowledge. Across all faculties in he’s years of teaching experience is second to none. He saw me through my entry level to my final year, some of the topics he taught were complicated all we had to do is just memorize all the derivations and calculations and pour them on the answers booklet, which he had not issue with even if you ain’t correct but you have a knowledge of what the question is required of you.

I hardly made use of the library because most of the books present in the selves are outdated, I only visit the school library for the sole reason that it’s very quite and it’s the best environment for studying. I really struggled with algebra back in college, I had to put in extra hours in studying or memorizing the steps taken to derive the formulas.

My college year was very fantastic, I must say if is possible to relieve those memories which I had, I won’t hesitate to do so outside the side attractions which am referring to the babes on campus, studying was a bit fun but stress free. Our course schedule was tailored according to our specifications, out side the free periods we were having in my final year, our classes close by mid-day which gives me enough time to go back to the hostel and rest. GST courses which according to our form advisor that we can’t do without because of the it’s effect of the course load, was always after mid day on Friday which it was only class we have to attend for the whole day.

The lecturer who had a great sense of humor, really didn’t make it seem as a burden leaving the hostel to the school’s permanent site for lectures. Mind you, we were operating from the a temporary site while our permanent site was still under construction. Something which I feel am lucky enough was I didn’t bag an extra year in college because that would had tell a lot on me physically.
