HOSPITALITY A FAST RISING SECTOR IN LAGOS STATE NIGERIA

So for some days now i have been posted back to site, as a consultant for one of the project sites in Lagos state Ikeja axis to be precise. The site which is an hospitality structure and the main contractor for this project as regards the implementation of the architectural design is Julius Berger, also called JB for short. The building which will accommodate two hundred and fifty rooms (250) guest rooms, yes am into the Hopitality sector if you are confused following up on my posts. My core area is extra low voltage services for Hopitality, Lagos which is referred to as the commercial and happening city as regards business and night live. This has seen the growth of Pubs, hotels, guest houses and to name a few.

Due to the course of my work I have been able to pay a visits to some hotels in the metropolis. Some of the hotels which I have worked on is the George Hotel, Ibis hotel, the Marriott hotel Lagos and to mention a few. For the few days I have spent on the site, I have been able to gain a thing or two.
When it comes to learning I am so open minded even if it doesn’t pertain to my profession, but I just want the of things and how they work or function. The project which it’s currently on the fifth floor, and the structure which will enable the facility to stand firmly has already been put in place.

Structural engineering ain’t my thing, but I want paired with a structural engineer of whom is also a consultant for the project. As we rubbed minds together as regards the job, I came across the full meaning of CAD.
Well I am also a draftsman and since the years I have spent at the job I didn’t know the full meaning of CAD, I thought will was just an extension from the files that are saved while you make use of autocad to design. So CAD simply means Computer Aided Design, I came across this in an architectural book as I was discussing with the architect available on site.

Then after we went into the Guest mock-up room, well for those of us who have no idea of what a mock-up room means I will do the honors of explaining a bit. When you designing or carrying out a letter writing you need to write or solve on a rough shits before transferring the vetted work from the rough sheets to the other sheet that’s need. We do this in order for us to avoid mistake, same thing goes with this the mock-up room is where everything that’s is needed in each guest rooms it must be present in the site location. After this room as been certified and it’s good to go, they then replicates this in each rooms, every service in this room is set to be implemented as soon as the guest room is ready. This idea has provide two things:

  • For the client to have a first hand of how the rooms are going to look like after they are done with it but the interior designer, and also for the sake of approval.

  • To act as a template for all contractors involved in the project to follow, as they are deploying their services.

Well I would say I had a first hand in this, which entrance of the rooms I was so impressed at the work they have done. I discovered a fault in the design which is the provision of telephone and data points which
are to be positioned underneath the front desk table and by the side of the bed.
Well subsequent articles will be available.
