CORRUPTION AND MISMANAGEMENT ARE BIGGEST PROBLEMS

Hello hive learner community, how are you doing today? Happy new week to every one of you. what a country we are living in! I had a hard situation where a snake swallowed more than 30 million naira. I began to think, ‘does snake know what money is?’
This is the kind of country we are living were politicians and influenced men take opportunity and siphoned government money.
There was a situation where a contractor diverted the money to his account and refused to embark on the contract.
My state government awarded a road contract worth more than 30 billion naira; when the election was approaching, I saw on a news channel that the road was completed. I don’t know where they got the road which they showed on TV; a new well-constructed road was shown on TV to confuse the citizens that the work was done.
But we the citizens living in that environment knew that nothing was done. The road was not constructed because it was the road that passed my hometown; It was a road I trekked every time, and my father’s house was on the opposite side of the road.

I came across news last year when the president of the chartered institute of forensic and investigation of Nigeria said, 72% of Nigeria budget is lost to corruption practice at all level of government”.

From local government level to federal level, a large percentage of budget is lost to corruption, cybercrime and fraud. Which simply means all the bodies in government are corrupt; the corruption has gotten to climax right now, that was the reason the Nigerians were crying for the change of government during presidential election that took place February 2023.
I was also part of the youth agitating for the change of government during the presidential election; I heard the president four years ago in his manifesto. His manifesto was based on corruption; he said, "I will end corruption in this country". The Nigerians were very happy because that corruption is our biggest challenge.
The funniest thing was that, it was during his tenure we recorded the highest rate of corruption in the country.
Imagine the whole Central Bank of Nigeria caught fire just to cover their loopholes.

LET LOOK AT SOME AREAS THAT GIVERNMENT NEED TO SPEND MONEY
source
TECHNOLOGY: Africa is far behind in the aspect of technology. Technology is the easiest way to reduce corruption, strengthen security and many more.
With technology, government can track millions of accounts on a daily basis, know the amount of money that is entry the account, and if there is suspicion, government can put an embargo on such accounts.
One of the first things that the Government should spend on is technology; it is the easiest way to catch criminals and money launderers.
Government have been spending billions on country’s security; yet, we are having more cases of terrorists, Boko Haram, and other sects creating problems, killing innocent souls, threatening citizens and thwarted the security of the country.
Instead of recruiting more people into the forces such as soldiers, army, navy, and police; the government should provide technology that can oversee all these terrorists, and train people to overtake the task of operating the technology.
It is disheartening, hearing news of terrorist killing thousands of soldiers and other forces across Nigeria; that is just how my country is.
If there is technology that could oversee these group of sects; their plans would have divulged before it is initiated.
This is because a country’s security is as important as the economy of the country.

ELECTRICITY: Light is life to many of us. Electricity in my country is in the state of eclectic. As big as my country is, there is no stable power supply.
70% of the population relies on other sources of generating light. I was in a village where there was no light; for the whole two years I spent in the village, there was no light: I had to force myself to get a generator since I needed light. Just imagine how the villagers would be? It was like another world entirely for me, I have never been in such a place where there is no power supply for years, and I don’t believe that such existed until I witnessed it.
That was the reason the village had not developed since it was created: there was no development and infrastructure in the village.
I believe the village has potential to become a city if there is electricity and a road network; due to lack of electricity supply, there was no investor coming to the village.
Life without light makes life hard; because life was hard for me until I got generator.

Nigeria is endowed with hydro, gas, oil, and solar resources. The country is capable of providing electricity to all citizens uninterrupted. But the case is the reverse, the electricity available for the country is not enough at all. The government needs to increase MW, so that we can have a stable electricity supply in the country.

In my own observation, there are big guns behind the eclectic power supply due to what they enjoyed. For instance, a man that is selling generator will never pray for his environment to have stable power supply. He knows that if the power is stable, his business will not move forward, he may decide to bribe people that are working with power supply.

What brought development to a village I visited last year was the uninterrupted power supply. I was in the village for two weeks, the light was stable, and when I investigated, they said their electricity is 24 hours.
That was the reason companies trooped into the village. Right now, it is no longer a village but a city.

One of the areas I would like government to reduce the way they spend money is electoral positions like senators, house of representative, house of assembly, etc. what a senator is earning in a month, a civil servant cannot earn it in 35 years of service including gratitude.
That is just absurd! No wonder they are robust, using luxury things and living an extravagant life.
I believe government can put measures in place to reduce their wages, and use the money to do tangible things in the country. This system makes the majority poorer and minority to be richer.
There are millions of citizens that cannot get three meals per day while the politicians are living a sumptuous life.
I saw someone while I was going to a recreational Centre, the young man was begging for food from me, he said I should give him money to eat, that he hadn't eaten for 24 hours.

I stand up for success, and success is not achieved by merely making mouth, No room for laziness, no room for idleness. Success comes to the people who are desperately and consciously searching for it. When it seems unsuccessful or you smell failure around you, never discourage yourself to be successful.
“Discouragement and failure are the two surest stepping stones to success.” - Dale
