I am a veteran Hive user who has been around since the Steem days. I am also a veteran internet user who started with Gopher, FTP, and Lynx (OK Boomer -- we get it).

Web 2.0 vs Web 3.0

Lately, I have found myself thinking a lot about the the internet's and technology's future direction and my involvement in it. In my mind, it is quite certain that blockchain/decentralization is the inevitable evolution of things.

In practice however, I find myself straddling the fence between the Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 worlds. I do many things on Hive and other decentralized tools, but find that I keep gravitating back to Web 2.0 tools.

The certainty in my mind of where we are going, juxtaposed with how I currently interact with technology, has created an internal dissonance that is entirely unsatisfying.

After all, if I really believe that Web 3.0 is the future, why not skate to where the puck is going as opposed to where it is now? If I believe Hive is the best thing since sliced bread, shouldn't I use it to the fullest extent possible?

Bootstrapping

At the same time, I have been thinking quite a bit about whether or not a person can really make a go of Web 3 with nothing but knowledge (well -- and computer + internet access of course).

In my previous Steem/Hive iterations, I grew my account(s) aggressively with investment. Cold hard cash. There was some interaction on my part through comments and such, but really not a lot. There was almost no contribution to my account from content creation.

There is nothing wrong with that, but I find myself constantly wondering. Could I do it from scratch?

For some reason the universe has been sending me tons of videos by Gary Vaynerchuck. He says over and over. Create content. Get cheap attention. Create content. Get cheap attention.

I can't quite get over the fact that I think he is probably right. However, I have not been creating content. I have been investing monetarily.

Hive is a good place to get cheap attention. Very cheap. No other investment than time.

The volumes are not nearly as much as with Web 2.0 apps, but if the Web 2.0 vs. Web 3.0 pans out as I believe it will, then having a significant established presence on a Web 3.0 platform early could be a game-changer down the road.

I am making this account to test all of my latest thinking (and my mettle).

I am going to attempt to "immerse" myself as much as possible in the Web 3.0 universe. Using Hive as the primary medium.

I may not be able to fully go Web 3.0, but I am going to give it the old college try by focusing this account on creating content, interacting with others and getting attention (look at me!! look.at.me!!)

Some might consider that cheating, but either you pay or someone else pays. There is no such thing as a truly completely free HIVE account. I wanted to truly attempt to grow an account with no monetary input from me.

Content Is A Dirty Word!!

At least for me. I really, really am not good at content.

First of all, I never learned to type.

Yep. Every one of these words has been painstakingly two-fingered over literally hours. It's maddening.

Secondly, I have the attention span of a gnat at times. Every little thing is a distraction.

Luckily there are other avenues of content production and engagement for me to explore on Hive. Comments. Video. Podcasts. Dare I say programming for the blockchain itself (no -- I don't know how to do that -- but fancy that I could).

Anyway. Enough rambling. My two fingers are about done for.

Hopefully this will not be the last content you see from me. We will see. Wish me luck (I am going to need it)!
