21 Thorns Cards in Splinterlands, can you name them all? Splinterlands Social Media Challenge

Thorns is a wonderful ability that allows your monster to return some damage back to the opponent as they use their melee attack on yours. It is a guaranteed hit and damage. Unfortunately this does not work with blast (Wouldn’t that be crazy!)

So here is a list of the possible Modern cards that utilise the Thorns ability and their cost to achieve it.

We will start with the highest single BCX cost and work down through to the lowest.

21. Cornealus

An excellent card but at $75 per BCX it is expensive, especially considering you’d need 3 of them to achieve Thorns. A great card but too expensive for sure! Only copies at 2nd level available are silly money to buy. Fun to rent though.

20. Coeurl Lurker

I love this card and so do many a player within Splinterlands. The down side here is not the card but the cost to achieve the final ability of Thorns. You’d need to take this card to max level to receive Thorns which puts it at a tasty 11 BCX. Low card price for 1 BCX is currently $28.957. Not sure I’d want to spend that much but I won’t be getting to Diamond any time soon.

19. Caladuum

This card is pretty unfamiliar to me and is one I have yet to try out. Similar to the Coeurl Lurker, this card requires max level BCX of 11 to achieve Thorns. The current price for a max copy is $300 and that is the only copy for sale via PeakMonsters. Certainly not worth it for an account such as mine.

18. The Vigilator

I quite like this card overall, the different attack types make it quite the offensive beast. 3 Copies are required for Thorns putting it into second level. I think it makes for quite the attractive offering. The was a copy available for $85 but single copies can be had in small quantities for a bit less than that. A great card but out of my personal budget.

17. Mylor Crowling

This is an absolute favourite of mine. A great card and one I used quite a bit when I first started to play in February of this year. I used to combine this with the Unicorn Mustang and would race out of Bronze III pretty quickly. Nowadays that tactic is still effective but maybe not quite so strong as it was. Worth every penny granting Thorns to your entire lineup.

16. Lobstradamus

I absolutely love this card without Thorns so adding this awesome ability would be immense. But at what cost is it worth it? Currently it costs around $5.72 to buy a single BCX, to acheive Thorns I'd need 32 copies... ouch. (Also the prices varied wildly, between the star of this article to the final edits the card raised 40cents. The variation of the lowest 10 priced cards is low but after that the next twenty cost 4-5 times as much as the above single BCX. So the price in the table is an estimate. Too much despite the awesome potential here.

15. Living Lava

A wonderful card that many a player of Splinterlands will be familiar with but a max copy of this card comes with Thorns. As if it didn't already have great value to a deck but certainly too much for my taste at 115 copies! Just realised how much this card has dropped in value, I should pick some more up!

14. Onyx Sentinel

The Onyx Sentinel is a reward card which I have not really used much. As a neutral it offers its abilities to almost any deck. Requiring 32BCX is what would hold it back in this list as it would make it a relatively hefty investment for Thorns. Not worth it in my mind.

13. Beatrix Ironhand

Requiring third level, this card is an interesting one. I haven't personally tried it but as a card it does not interest me at all. I think it is the fact I'm set more for magic with my Earth deck but good damage, close range and good health. It's not worth the cost though for 10 BCX.

12. Cursed Windeku

One of the few cards where 1 BCX allows you to have Thorns from the start. An absolute bane of existence in Bronze at times when you come up against it. But when it is on your side, you are glad to have it. Excellent value overall especially for a Bronze deck.

11. Naga Brute

A Dice card, requiring 60 copies to achieve Thorns. Not a card I can say I have used so can only judge it for financial value and mana cost compared to the rest of the list. At the current price for a single copy I'd say it is good value but taking the card for 60 BCX is probably not quite worth it near the top of the list.

10. Crystal Jaguar

30 BCX is pretty good and on the low side of Untamed cards. But this is not going to be a staple in your line up compared to the other options from the options I can see. Cheaper than most but not on my list of priorities.

9. Demented Shark

100 BCX makes this a little pricey but a good addition to a water deck at 6th level. I'm not sure this is worth the investment compared to a bunch of the other options on the list here. 6 mana is expensive.

8. Giant Scorpion

60 BCX for a 5th level Scorpion is decent value overall, far from bad value but at 4 mana it could certainly be useful enough, most likely not going to be a card you want to play regularly though.

7. Biceratops

100 BCX and an improvement on the Crystal Jaguar on this list. The higher damage makes it a bit more of a win for the mana cost. 100 copies required but for Untamed, this is pretty good value.

6. Time Meddler

One of the newer additions to the list of Modern cards. A maximum level card is required meaning 400 BCX. It may take some time to secure the cards required as there appear to only be smaller levels available. A costly 8 mana is pretty large a price but the stats and abilities seem to back it up.

5. Djinn Chwala

This was my first levelled card and it really did make it worthwhile. An excellent card and one I'd recommend immediately to any Dragon decks for beginners. 1 level is required and you are good to go. Get it now!

4. Venari Knifer

An excellent option for Earth against the other Thorns options on the battlefield. Worth the single BCX every day.

3. Mycelic Morphoid

I really enjoy using this card and at a very low cost to achieve Thorns, it is well worth the very minimal investment.

2. Ever-Hungry Skull

100 BCX is still very cheap, I'd say you get this one bought up as soon as possible and perhaps take it to max level just for the CP. Certainly a good card for Equaliser rulesets, I know that from using it earlier today to a high rate of success.

400 BCX is a big number but as a very cheap common card, it might be best to get this one bought up sooner rather than later while supply is plentiful and the cost is low. Can't say I'll be utilising the abilities but 2,100CP for around $2 is a bargain really.
