In London for the Queen's 70th Jubilee - Trafalgar Square goes crazy for a royal drive-by

avatar

We are in London for a few days vacation, but not intentionally for the Queens jubilee. We decided to go to Trafalgar Square nice and earlier this morning, on the hope of avoiding the crowds, not realising that there was going to be a royal drive past, and it was absolutely mental as a result !

There were thousands of people out. Its the most union jacks I've ever seen !

The atmosphere was really nice, and everyone was in good spirits to celebrate the Queens jubilee.

It was mobbed, and we really enjoyed it. They had shut of a lot of central London for it, which was nice - weird to be in the centre of the city with virtually no traffic !

Covent Garden was decked out nicely for the jubilee (below) !

I was quite amazed at just how many people there were - bloomin thousands !

We were heading for the national gallery, which is at the back of the Sqaure and had to pace our way through the crowds to get there. It was worth it as I was then able to get out on the Gallery veranda to take a pick of the proceedings - just before they closed it off (below).

People hadnt started going in the fountains yet - but I'm sure it happened !

And later just as we were going into the British Museum, there was a fly past of the red arrows (and other planes), and they were kicking out their usual red, white and blue smoke.

It was great to see everyone in good spirits, and lovely to be part of such a historic event - the only British monarch to have got to 70 years on the throne - thats some milestone.

And bunting was out in many streets across the city - which was nice to see.

Although we hadnt planned it, it will be something to remember !

And I loved this giant ice cream in Trafalgar Square.

A lovely day out in our capital city !

Great photos. Thanks for sharing.

I chose not to go into center as my kids busy revising. Bad timing for them. Looks a lot of fun though.

Thanks - it was roasting all day. I definitely caught the sun - but then again, I'm Scottish - we dont normally get to see it !

😂😆
Funnily enough, a weekly stream I watch with a guy from Scotland yesterday spent the first hour complaining about the weather!

Yep - we complain when its cold, and then as soon as it warms up, we then switch to complaining that its too warm

I left the UK and one reason was for the bad weather, but now stay in the shade or inside when its warm! 😅
