The Twitter Turmoil

The tumultuous start of Twitter after the ownership of billionaire Elon Musk looks to have created turmoil around the social media giant Twitter.

Firing, resignation and policy reversals leads Twitter to an uncertain future and many worry of the growing risks of misinformation.

The first week of Musk Twitter is seen by some as chaotic.

The Twitter Turmoil

In just the last week, after Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter:

  • Half of 7,500 employees laid off
  • Key privacy and compliance officers quit
  • And musk reportedly told employees that 'Bankruptcy isn't out of question'.

The way things are happening around Twitter in the first few days of Musk takeover, it didn't seem like he had real action plans the first days he got in there and relying on a handful of close advisors.

Twitter compared to Facebook and Instagram is small in terms of its social use but the news that hit on Twitter trickle down to other networks.

Now Musk has implemented system that make it more difficult to immediately understand whether or not tweets or accounts are actually real verified people.

I don't think being experimental is something you shouldn't be and this is what Musk is trying to be with Twitter.

But Twitter is something that is very different than SpaceX, Tesla and any of the other things Musk has done but it may have a wide range of repercussions on how people consume media on a dialy basis.

I believe in with time, twitter will regain back. Its a normal occurrence when ever there is transfer of ownership of a particular thing. But I just don't hope he will say ordinary users should pay for using twitter.

What Elon is doing makes sense because he wants it to be profitable. With him inheriting a bad company structure, he has to cut off the excess and move it towards that point because the advertisers also have left to some extent.

I think he wants to change the dynamics of how information/news is verified and distributed.

Saying Bankruptcy isn't out of the question got me a bit worried. That will really be a bad thing for all the parties, Twitter has already established itself as a reliable source of information about almost everything in the world.

Doing some experiments is good, but if it affects too much in everything, that can do more harm than good.

People who have been working for a long time on Twitter see their job is not secure, they can lose their job at any time since their colleagues already lost their jobs. Employees will pay more attention to looking for another job than paying attention to their work.

A moment of concern for them.
