Market Friday Goes to the Phsar Thmei (Central Market)

We are truly thankful that we were able to travel last month to Cambodia. Our timing was just perfect, as the coronavirus situation just got worse for us this month. At the moment, we only have one day left before the community quarantine will take effect. This would mean no land, sea, or air travel in and out of Metro Manila. This is meant to minimize the spread of the outbreak.

But for now, let's take a break from all the contagion talk and look back to our arrival in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I previously shared our first video from our airport to our arrival.

Part One: Travelling Out NAIA Terminal 3 (Day 1) - Arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport

Our first stop was at a local restaurant for some breakfast. Then, we were taken to the Central Market for some souvenir shopping. I'm sharing some of the snippets from our first day of shopping in Cambodia.

Central Market actually reminded us of similar markets back home. You see, we live in an area that's near the famous Divisoria market, known for its affordable and low-cost goods.

This market is truly fascinating, as it caters to tourists in Cambodia. We looked around eagerly and took lots of photos. It was a really huge market, the kind where one would get lost in if they lacked navigational skills. Thankfully, we were used to remembering and taking note of markers, so shopping was a breeze for us.

Another tip is to have a shopping list on hand. That way, you wouldn't miss out on anything that you had planned on buying. My daughter was in charge of that list, so off we went fulfilling the items on her list.

This part of the market looks really nice. See that dome? It's also the centerpoint of the entire market. From here, we walked around the market from all the four points.

Before that, let's take a look at the items for sale in this part of the market. If you're into custom jewelry, bracelets, earrings, this would be a good place to buy. Nice as these shiny bling-blings seem, we were told that these are mostly fancy items.

These items were not on our shopping list, so we just gave them all a sweeping look and moved on to find the souvernir items on our list.

This long hallway is one of the four points that we headed to as we looked for ref magnets, postcards, keychains, and other souvenirs that my daughter had planned on purchasing.
