Of Christmas Eve Dinner and Dessert

Some families are big, and that makes celebrating the occasion a much bigger deal. I could imagine loads of stuff to prepare: appetizers, soup, main dish, and dessert. Well, for us, it's just Mom, me, and my daughter. Besides, we're not that huge on celebrations. We go for simple. We always have. I guess that's just the way we roll.

Of course, we couldn't pass up the bonding time we get to share. My daughter wanted to experiment on a dessert this year. Being the supportive mom, I assisted her in preparation. This was actually done the night before the eve. It was my suggestion, so the dessert gets chilled overnight and would be perfect for Christmas eve dinner.

The dessert : dulce de graham

Ingredients have been purchased before hand, so we just needed to put them together. Since, this is a no-bake dessert, it was easy to prepare.

First she laid out the graham crackers on the dish. We're both amateurs, so the photos would be closer to reality than expectation.

We filled the cracks with crushed graham crackers. I was the one who did the crushing and filling at this point. My daughter prepared the all-purpose cream and the kremdensada (sweetened all-purpose cream).

Voila! The graham base has been covered with the cream. We did two layers of this to make it thicker.

My daughter said she saw this on a video on YT. She bought caramel custards to add as toppings to the dessert. In the past, I prepared a homemade version of this custard. Perhaps next time around, I'll share that recipe here too.

Not one but two! LOL! It's almost done at this point, but we'll add more of the cream and dust the top with more crushed graham.

Here I was trying to finish up preparation for this dessert. Just a little more coating for the top. The cover photo of this post was the look of the dessert as we placed it in the fridge.

There it was last night as we served the dulce de graham after a dinner of Mom's spaghetti special.

I shared a photo yesterday as I was preparing Mom's spaghetti recipe. Here it is with all the sauce added. For now, I'll keep the rest of Mom's recipe a secret.
