WednesdayWalk | Visiting the National Museum
Inspired by #Wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay
Photos featured are from my collection. National Museum of Cambodia, February 2020.
Let me take you on another #waybackWednesday walk. This was part of our Cambodia trip back in February this year. My gosh, it felt like ages ago. I couldn't believe how much life has changed in a matter of months.
From the Royal Palace, we made a quick stop at Wat Unalom Pagoda, where we got a monk's blessing. We felt that we needed that for the rest of the tour. After that stop, we proceeded to the National Museum of Cambodia.
Here, we were left to explore by ourselves. They do offer audio tours (my first time to encounter such). You could rent headphones that would guide you through the stops within the museum. We sort of opted for a quiet walking tour, so we didn't avail of that. Besides, it's not our first time to tour around a museum. Even back home, we have visited quite a few local museums and enjoyed the quiet moments.
Just to give us an idea, we took note of the huge map of the museum, so we would know where to go around. Taking photos was not allowed inside, so we just took photos of what we can.
This was the only place allowed to take a photo -- the Garuda statue, a mythical and powerful figure in local Cambodian culture.
Going around the many different sections of the museum made us a bit tired and dizzy. This garden right in the center was indeed a welcome sight.
There's even a small pond with a few feathered friends taking a dip in the water. It was a rather hot day, almost noon time too. I'm not surprised the birds were in the water at all.
Here's the other side that's a bit quiet. It was a lovely relaxing garden, where we got to rest a bit and enjoy a soda (There's a small shop that sold snacks and drinks). Since we were also able to buy some postage stamps from the main souvenir shop in the museum, our next stop was the post office.
The Post Office
While planning for the trip, we also planned on sending home a postcard from each of the city that we would be visiting: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville. This was the first leg of that postcard sending project.
We are truly thankful to our guide, Mr. Sean, for graciously accommodating our request to drop by the nearest post office so I could send home a postcard. So glad, it was just somewhere near the museum.
It was a Sunday, but apparently, we could still send out postcards.
There I was dropping my postcard in the mailbox. Oh, I received the postcard sent from Phnom Penh roughly two weeks from the time I sent it in. Yey!
Thank you for joining me for another #Wednesdaywalk.
