LATO-LATO: Traditional Games Come Back to Life

In keeping with the community's overall concept of "Toys that bring fun to life". So, on this occasion, I'll talk about my experiences with toys that have made kids in my hometown of Lhokseumawe happy.

They nicknamed this game "Lato-Lato". At the end of 2022, my small town was enlivened with lato-lato, which are pairs of small balls connected by a string and come in various colors.

My curiosity about the history of lato-lato colors my mind, as vibrant as the color of the lato-lato sold by toy dealers on street corners and has attracted the attention of residents to buy them.

The buyers were dominated by children and adults.

Eventually, my question was resolved, as per one of the Wikipedia links, outlined this:

Clackers (also known as Clankers, Ker-Bangers, and numerous other names) were toys popular in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1968, tempered glass sphere models emerged that would eventually shatter, sending glass shards into the face of the user and anyone nearby. In the early 1970s, manufacturers changed them to plastic spheres suspended on each string. When they were swung up and down, banging against each other with a lot of force they made the loud "clacking" sound.

This link also explains the history of the development of lato-lato, until 2022, this game will return to Indonesia.

The redesigned version was revived again throughout Indonesia in late 2022 and quickly gained fame among the public. They are known as Katto-Katto or Latto-Latto. Latto is a buginese word which means clacking sound, while Katto is its Makassarese counterpart with similar meaning.

The next day, at a place where I often stop for coffee, I managed to meet the children playing lato-lato.

Here's the action, they shake the rope so that a pair of balls collide with each other to produce a distinctive sound.
