“We go on multiplying our conveniences only to multiply our cares. We increase our possessions only to the enlargement of our anxieties.”

- Anna C. Brackett, 1836 -

Less is more...

This phrase may mean differently from person to person. Some may call it minimalism, others define it as living simply or being content with what one has; wanting less; buying only the things we need... de-cluttering... creating more space etcetera, but I guess it leads to having lesser stress, lesser distraction, lesser anxiety, more time and more freedom.

Unfortunately, in today's fast-paced society where consumerism is plastered almost everywhere by advertisers through the mainstream and social media, the hunger and thirst for MORE is pretty much alive. Gadgets, clothing, furniture, things and many more stuff...

Some years ago, the husband and I agreed that we won't be buying anymore things for the house and for ourselves unless it is absolutely necessary. That decision came when while moving in to our new house, we found out that we had quite a lot of things that we never really used or even needed. And we were kind of forced to give them away because we have to create more space.

We had to clear our closets just so our clothes will have more room to breathe. At some point, choosing which things to keep and which ones to let go was difficult. "Oh I bought that for this much, what a waste..." or "No!!! I haven't even worn that!" Even the husband had a hard time letting go of some of his things but it must be done.

Now, there's lesser things to tidy up, not many things getting pushed back in kitchen cabinets and such. And I can say life has been quite good since we became intentional about living a simplistic and a more frugal lifestyle.

That is something I want to practice. Letting go of things that aren't useful anymore. It is really hard.

It is very challenging but once you feel and see the effect, it becomes a lot easier :)

I agree with your point so so much. The more belongings we have, the more we are in trouble.

I know sometimes it is more than hard to let something go, but once it is done, the peace follows, doesn’t it? !LOLZ it is like getting the operation done and removing the unnecessary out. Pain followed by relief

but once it is done, the peace follows, doesn’t it?

Oh this is 100% true! We ourselves can actually breathe freely after it's done :) Glad to have found that secret. !LOLZ

I think I'm in the same situation you found yourself many years ago, some days back I checked my clothing bags and some clothes earrings I never use for once since I purchased them were just staring at me in the face.

I tried to ask myself why did I purchase them in the first place? The hunger and pressure to buy always is high, I think is time I start being more intentional about the things I buy.

It's great that you come around :) It's quite amusing what we do to ourselves, buying so much things even when we know we don't need or use them hehe :)

It is good to let go of things that aren't useful again so that the place will look nice.

That's true :) A room looks more spacious when there aren't many things scattered around.

The decision you and your husband make is a great one because you guys won't be spending money on things you don't need but on necessary things.

Oh that's absolutely correct. Instead of using the money on unnecessary stuff, we can actually save and invest them.

Saludos!

Thank you Evelyn. It is true, it was difficult to let go of those that hold special memories but we had to and in the end, we felt better :)

You're right. less is more..It's funny how hard it is to let go of so many things that don't really serve us. We just need awareness to know that.
