Some Things Are Simply Not Meant for Us

I was up early today, too early in fact that even the birds are yet to sing. The husband was still in dream land too so I just gave him a smack kiss on the forehead and quietly left the house. All he knew was that my friends and I are going on an all-girl trip so he could not come with me. Truth is, I was embarking on a secret mission, alone.

Traversing the town's road towards the east and passing by various beautiful fields, the sun was already up when I sighted the Ortiva flyers which means that I have arrived. I only realized that I've been driving for almost two hours and it didn't feel like it.

I was having a debate inside my head. There was this side of me wanting to just go back and the other one insisting I should go inside already. Taking some deep breathes, I shut the engine off and alighted before my alter ego wins and convinces me to go back home.

"Boom kana-kana..." I whispered when I reached the house's doorstep. It was a password to enter the owner's place, my friends hath told me. Although feeling skeptical, I used it anyway. And to my surprise, the door slowly opened and a beautiful woman appeared before me. Smiling yet without a word, she motioned me to follow her inside like she had been expecting me. I noticed her shiny, long locks flowing nicely at her back. She brought me to the table where a coffee cup with a cute graphic stared right at me as I sat on the chair.

"You had been crying," the woman said nonchalantly almost immediately after I had myself seated. I haven't even looked around nor say "hello" to her. "Although life has been good to you and things come easily when you need them, deep inside you feel something is missing..." she continued. "You drown yourself in doing things which you think are fun but at the end of the day, your soul feels empty because you're longing..." more words coming out strongly and I just sat there, confused, wondering if it was really me she was talking to.

"Yesterday, you celebrated your wedding anniversary and ate some simple dishes at a restaurant's balcony. Your dessert was..." Oh my, that really freaked me out! So she is talking to me! "But how did she even know that?" the words are just inside my head.

"You dropped by the saloon expecting you'd take home the puppy you were wanting to have but the owner had a change of heart..." it seemed as though she was just reading a written script of what happened the other day. "Although you were smiling and laughing as you left the place empty-handed, you actually felt broken and your husband didn't even have a clue..." I haven't told a soul yet she speaks the truth.

"But worry not, CJ. You will soon have something really good and it will make you live a little differently..." she even knows my name. I had to pinch myself in the arm thinking it's just a dream.

"Com'n, drink your coffee and let's go somewhere..." the woman now speaking cheerfully. I didn't even realize the cup had something in it. It looked as though someone had just stirred its contents and it's still steaming hot. Perhaps I was too distracted that I didn't notice when she poured water and coffee into it.

Without needing any second word, I took the cup and drank all of it, savoring to the last drop. The woman smiled warmly, "your life is good and I know you're always grateful. So keep on, love your life even more and the people around you as you always did. You're just having a little disappointment. Come, let's take a walk..." she held me by the hand and we strolled out her house.

"There are certain things in life that no matter how much we wanted to have, they are simply not meant for us..." she said gently as we strolled further towards the tree, under which we can sight the street and the mountains from afar. "But it doesn't mean that life stops there. Hope isn't lost until we ourselves give up..." she went on and I just nodded for it's the truth.

"Do not be too hard on yourself, my dear. And remember to keep doing what makes you happy each and everyday because that is what matters most..." she said further. "And oh, didn't you want a puppy?" she asked excitedly.

"Let's go to to the other side!" she almost dragged me towards the narrow walkway and before I could even breath, she presented me with two adorable puppies. One with the pink tag had me on her eyes and never blinked.

"Hahaha! I knew it! You two will be really good friends!" the woman laughed out loud. "Would you want to take her home?" she asked. "Grab her over or I'll change my mind!" she teased and took the lil pup then passed her over to me.

I'm just glad I took the trip. I'm now on my way back home and I imagine the husband will be very surprised but he'd love and spoil lil P for sure!

This is a fictional story for my participation to the first option of this week's STB prompt, re:

All of your friends say that the fortune teller at the edge of town can see into your heart by looking into your empty coffee cup. Skeptical, you visit her. She accurately recounts your most recent struggles and gives you insight, what does she say?

Photos are my own. 10042023/10:45ph

What a very creative piece for spill the beans prompt, sis. Hehe. I love the thought that some things are not really meant for us and it was a great conversation in the story. Well, the husband was still asleep and surely he would be surprised. Have a wonderful day and enjoy your cup of Joe! Love yah.

Awe, this is so stunningly written and heartwarming! I loved the insights that the fortune teller had, and how she was able to heal the sadness of not getting the puppy she should've... maybe it is because THIS is the right one for her, locking eyes right away in soul recognition. 😍

Oh what a wonderful story it is ! I almost seemed as if reading a book which had the proper plot and was heading towards suspension! The fortune teller seemed to be quite experienced! I loved the ending too and my fav line would be “Don’t be hard on yourself, do things what makes you happy “

Loved reading it !

Great story telling!

I couldn't agree more.☺️ There are things that no matter how much we want them, they're simply just not meant for us. And the best thing to do is to accept and appreciate what we already have.☺️

Thank you lots! And it's very true, we can't force things when they aren't meant to be 😊

The sense of longing runs like a nostalgic thread throughout your beautiful piece. The impression that part of that longing is fulfilled by the puppy, is heartwarming.

Some things are not meant for us

However, the puppy will need the same attention and love as a child. Dogs have a way of “giving” that is unequally delightful.
Lovely 🥰 story 🤗❤️

Thank you :) And true, the pup needs love and attention too, which while reading back my story, it coincides with what the fortune teller said that something will come and will make us live a little differently :)

Many thanks again, I'm glad you found this lovely 😍

That is quite strange
I wonder how the woman knew everything that you are going through
Also, if I were the one, I wouldn't take the coffee.
I'll be so scared

Hey there!
I'm glad that you got around to writing this, it's like a breath of fresh air 😍

"Boom kana-kana..."

That was a nice touch!

Your story is emotionally packed 👏
I love how personal you make it, and appreciate that you used her photos which made it feel "real" and added cuteness to the mix.

I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Awesome🙌

Hello, Camille :) Thank you❤️

When I commented yesterday on the prompt post, I had no plot in mind but glad something came up this morning and it just unfolded like that. Even the "boom kana-kana" 😅

You made what we know as a fictional story and gave it such a magnificent twist that borders on reality. It was a swirl reading this dear. You did wonderfully with the prompt and portrayed the fortune teller as not a freak but a warm, kind, person. I !LUV it.🌺✨🤗

An adorable and touching story. It grabbed me from the first line to that happy ending with the eyes of that puppy , loved it. Will it be possible to continue the story? I'm curious about the husband's reaction at home.

Thank you and I'm yet to bring home a puppy😅 We were really expecting we'd have one but the owner changed his mind so this faction (fiction plus facts) was inspired by my disappointment, lol!
