If you are going to upvote someone, the least you could do to improve the network is EXPLAIN WHY.
For some reason I ended up on a trail of downvotes. They were in sequence so I doubt they manually took the time to think before downvoting, I even think they didn't even read the post before downvoting.
That would be reasonable if it were a political post, or a post regarding my opinions about blockchains (like suggestions for Hive). The post was a totally personal subject.

I was sharing about the Chinese lessons I am taking. I have been studying 2 hours of chinese with 1 on 1 teachers daily. Why would someone downvote something so personal like that?
I can only think of someone having a personal thing against me, or them being bots. Both things are terrible and makes me lose a little bit of faith on Hive every time it happens.

We both have reasons to hate China, but what is the point of taking out this hate on a guy, who learn Chinese, like @igormuba? I checked his post. He talked mostly about his level of Chinese knowledge, the price of the lessons, and he shared his iTalki referral link. He did not talked about politics or anything else. I think that it is absolutely nonsense to downvote him for this reason, even if you "do not enjoy thinking or hearing about China".
I learnt from @azircon that no one else matters on Hive if you don't like what they post, you don't have to care, so I will choose to not care.

@igormuba I am not interested in your business. I personally do not like much China. But I will just move on. What you do is your business. It's absolutely fine that you write about it. I like writing about football, videogames and a few other stuff. I am persecuted by some weird tinfoil hat guy who downvotes 0.25% and upvotes 0.25% with another account whatever I write just because "he wants me to open the eyes" (Crazy lunatic). Some crazy person who probably can't even hold a world map. I am not that old damn, but I can't understand this type of behavior. HIVE should be different. If I am not interested I just move on. I don't go to bother people. But let's face it. To make HIVE grow it's either shit festival or more control/limitations. Forget having millions of not retarded people. It's impossible. Best change we got is turning into a sort of Reddit. Or hopefully having other projects like Splinterlands. If HIVE grows we'll probably see more and more imbeciles. And quite frankly. credo siano un sostanziale danno alla necessità di preservare un luogo che desidera essere differente da "Facebook" ma che inevitabilmente senza regole precise, finisce per diventarlo.

A me purtroppo e' capitato in maniera relativamente invadente e non mi piace affatto. Per esempio nominare un determinato giocatore di calcio ed ricevere messaggi via Peakd su fatti politici inerenti alla nazionalita' del giocatore in questione. E' proprio fastidioso. Ben peggio di, per esempio, uno spam incessante.
La sensazione non e' poi cosi' differente dal "BUONGIORNO KAFFE' ".
In tutta onesta' amo la potenzialita' di HIVE ma e' chiaramente utopistico pensare di averne un utilizzo armonioso se gli utenti aumentano.

It would be naive to not to think: that people don't read your post and upvote OR downvote it, solely based on how they personally feel about China.

A down vote is still better than no vote.
A bad comment is still better than no comment.
Bad press is still good press as long as they spell your name right .
Downvoting on Hive is a tool to punish bad content, it is not like in other social networks where it express your liking of the content. Here it is a tool to, for example, punish violent, plagiarism or illegal content.
It is specially powerful when they use a trail of downvotes. The effects of downvotes (increased by using a trail) are:
demonetize the downvoted content
reduce the reputation (level) of the poster
Luckily I have a reputation of 69.6 and enough people sided with me so my level and rewards are untouched. The downvote trail only showed their true colors.
You may see some posts, once in a while, that have zero rewards because the downvotes removed the reward from the upvotes. You may even sometimes see people with a reputation level below zero if the person keeps getting downvoted, many spammers have a very negative level.
The lower your level and the less rewards the LESS publicity you have.
Here, differently from other social networks, downvotes are a tool and generate an impact. It effectively reduces the reach of the post and the user in the long term.
Downvoting here is a tool to repress content that is ill intended, it is not only a way to show you disliked the content.
