Exploring Expectations
As my oldest child started talking about her next birthday party, the parenting pressure started building. Do I really HAVE to throw three parties again this summer? No. Absolutely not. I used my tools and released myself of the guilt of not having a plan, savings accounts, Pinterest Board, or want for kid parties. I forgave my mom for her expectations (grandma expects), and began exploring with my daughter ways that she could have an awesome celebration without the expectation that Mommy Dearest would "just" do it.
We discussed the difference between something cool happening, and expecting a specific someone to make something cool happen. Its different to have the expectation that its going to be your birthday and that you are going to spend it happy and surrounded by people you love; and expecting a certain person to make your birthday special.
