See and Get Acquainted with The Building of The Dutch Colonial Era in My Hometown, Medan City-Indonesia

Historic Old Building in Medan City

Why do a lot of posting using “hello everyone” as the opening sentence be a question for me. I avoid this phrase but it turns out I so understand why a lot of our friends use it because it sounded very friendly once and this sentence makes us closer to the reader.

For friends who follow my writing or just get acquainted with my writing for the first time. I live in one of the cities in Indonesia, namely the city of Medan. In the world of international usually rarely know or heard about my city. The international public just knows Jakarta and Bali, when called on Indonesia. Medan and Jakarta are only two hours of travel using an airplane, a two-day if you ride a ship, or four days if using a car or bus (sounds exhausting doesn't it?)

So, as a citizen of Medan City the better I will tell you about the city where I was born and I live. I would invite you to recognize is 0 km away from the city where I live, and see how the influence of European nations in the past against the building in the center of the city of Medan, and how the Dutch make all the office administration at that time with the planning of a measured and mature. Our journey started from this building.

The Old Building Hall

European-style buildings of the 19th century this is the point 0 km from Medan City established by the government of the city of Medan. The building has existed since the Dutch colonial era and became the center of government of Medan City at that time. 15 years ago this building is very alarming and not well managed by the government however, after the development of the international hotel at the back of this building. This building is in repair and re-paint without reducing the impression of a classic that he has. In 2012 the building was designated as a cultural heritage by the government of Medan city, so the structure of the building should not be changed guarded form of authenticity.

When taking a photo of this building, I feel like back in the future this building still serves as the office of the Dutch and the city of Medan was known as the Land of Deli. In the past, the city of Medan is the center of plantations, particularly tobacco, rubber, coffee, and sugarcane.

Bank of Indonesia

Not far from Medan City Hall there is also a building style architecture of Europe which is now used as the Office of the Central Bank of Indonesia. This building was once used by the Bank, De Javasche, the central bank of Dutch east indies. My grandfather once told me, back when he was young in this building there is a wall clock that is a very great time at precisely noon will ring a bell that her voice sounded far away. Dear h walls are missing the time of the incident revolution of 1965 and was not found until now.

The Post Office Medan

While at the Bank of Indonesia and you are facing North will see a big building classic style that is Building A Post Office of the Terrain. Since it was built by the Dutch government in 1911, this building does not change its function and remains a post office.

If we look at the layout of the Post office not far from the Central government, central bank, railway station, Alun-alun of the city, and the office of the largest plantations in the dutch east indies means the architects of the Dutch government when it's got the planning and layout of the city which is already in the think well.

PT London Sumatera Building

Among the three buildings above, this building has a different style right ? of course, because once the building is the property of the company from Liverpool England, namely the H&C (Harrison and Crosfield) who was engaged in the rubber plantations and coffee exports.

PT London Sumatra Building similar to the shape of the houses are there in London in the 18-19 centuries. This building is also designated as a cultural heritage by the government of Medan city so that the structure of the building is still awake, even the elevator used is still the same by the time the building was used.

This building still serves as the office of the company plantation owned by PT London Sumatra, info of security that many mystical stories exist in this place and also every year there is a treatment performed by a technician directly from the Uk.

The Era of colonization of a country in the past is indeed very painful and makes heartsick for the experience. How to live independently deprived and can't do anything according to our will.

From the photos above we can see how every building built by peoples of Europe who did colonial rule in Indonesia in the past, made with sturdy, durable, and planning. This we can interpret that the actual occupation will be carried out during long they can luckily in the 1940s or after the second world war. The occupation of a country by other countries began to cease and the nations of Asia and Africa could be independent of colonial rule.

I've never heard of your town before, but it does look very beautiful, especially in architecture. I think I see a cycle rickshaw in the distance in one of these shots. That is very cool there are still some in your country. In Cambodia they are only in a few cities now, it's a dying job.

thank you about your comment and read my post. I was surprised there who know about the rickshaw. In my city rickshaw is one of the tools of public transport. But in our place, tricycles do not use the bike but use motorcycles
