The History and Story a Cup of Coffee in Indonesia
If you read some of my posts before, you'll know I'm very fond of history, coffee, agriculture. Some of these days I'm thinking to make a piece of writing that combines three things I love. So, I will share my knowledge and my knowledge about it.
There is a legend about the discovery of coffee into a drink or food, which is a story of a sheepherder in Ethiopia who noticed his sheep be energetic after eating the red berries of a certain (coffee fruit).
I'll give you one fact, that although coffee is an agricultural commodity that is very widely planted in Indonesia, the coffee plant is not native in Indonesia. Coffee and Indonesia concerning the history of colonialism in the past. Indonesia (at that time java island and around) in the century 17-19 has not become a sovereign country and is still divided into several small kingdoms. At that time, the occupation of a nation and the region became commonplace, especially in the continents of Asia and Africa.
Indonesia experienced the colonial period most by the Dutch. At that time, as a country that colonize the Dutch made a policy of forced planting multiple commodities agricultural practices for export such as coffee, tea, and sugar cane. So, with every sip of coffee you drink in Indonesia there is a story of colonization in the past.
Coffee is very suitable for planting in Indonesia because coffee is a tropical plant. Indonesia's got all the criteria to make the coffee grown in the land of Indonesia into a coffee flavor high (or the term specialty grade coffee). Why? first, we are surrounded by volcanoes, although it can be disastrous when mount Merapi exploded but after that, the ground will regenerate and become more fertile, the effect of the eruption of the volcano in the past also the one who makes the soil conditions in Indonesia is very suitable for agriculture and plantations.
Mount Kerinci, one of the highest volcanoes on the island of Sumatra, which is at the foot of the mountain many of the society planted the famous coffee favors that Kerinci Coffee
Three varieties of coffee are common in plants in Indonesia, namely Arabica, Robusta, and Liberica. Arabica kind of type is the varieties of coffee the first entry into Indonesia and now thanks to the work of researchers and agricultural experts have been many and growing varieties of coffee that is more suitable to be planted in Indonesia, such as varieties of “Ateng Super, Andung Sari, the Blue Batak, Sigararutang, Kartika, etc.”.
There is a story and the unique history of Arabica coffee on the Island of Sumatra. Grandpa and Grandma we are no one dare to drink coffee Arabica in fact, according to many fans of coffee assume Arabica coffee is a type of coffee that is the most delicious and special. This relates again to colonization in the past, namely, the issue is made that the “Arabica coffee is not to be taken, because it is the raw material for the manufacture of content bullet gun” so that farmers no one dares to try the drink.
Now Arabica coffee has already started to be consumed by all people, especially the younger generation aged 20-35 years. How to enjoy it also begins to greatly vary from start to drink coffee without sugar, or with sugar and milk. Now, the tools and methods makers are also very varied as to manually brew already many tools that can be used as the Syphon, Vietnam Drip, V60 Drip, French Press, Moka Pot, etc. Brew coffee is also now able to use the machine to facilitate us to make a cup of coffee.
