Obstsalat".

Jedoch keine namens Laripur.

Last ChapterNext Chapter

Summary:
Mr Tur Tur tells the two friends his life story, gives them wise advice and offers his help to continue their journey to Kummerland. Jim and Lukas check Mr Tur Tur's illusory giant effect again before they continue their journey.

A very beautiful chapter, I'll say that right away!
But first we go to the oasis of Mr Tur Tur.
Here it is explained that the illusory giant is a vegetarian.
As a child, this was my first encounter with both the word oasis and also vegetarian.
When you grow up in the countryside, you eat a lot of meat, so it doesn't occur to you that you can only survive on plant food.
And always only salad, that's no good, you have to eat something good!
Today I have a completely different opinion, but that's not the point here;)

Emma is filled up with water because she is thirsty.
Well, you know what I think about always covering the locomotive with human motifs.
One is "delicious vegetables and [...] fruit salad".
But Mr. Ende should have described a little better what the friends could eat.
For it is not exactly made palatable to a child to do without meat.
Vegetables are usually "yuck" and fruit salad alone is not enough!

Mr Tur Tur explains his phenomenon of illusory trinity with a beautiful comparison.
For all people have different characteristics, such as skin colour.
Dark or light. That doesn't make any difference, but unfortunately most people don't think that way. They reject the foreign and the unknown, stigmatise and even condemn it.
That is exactly what happened to him.
Because that's how every person who moves away becomes smaller, it's just not the case with him, he becomes bigger when he goes further away.
So we humans are actually pseudo-dwarfs, because we become smaller.
Perhaps Mr Tur Tur is not a pseudo giant at all, but simply normal?
He neither gets bigger nor smaller, but always remains the same size in the eye of the observer, only the reference point changes for the observer.
How exactly this can be explained, I already wrote something about it last week, quantum mechanics, post-nuclear mutation, etc. I don't want to go into it here.
I don't want to go into it here, it would go beyond the scope of this article.

But now he comes to talk about where he comes from.
From Tierra del Fuego.
Or rather, an island called Laripur to the north of it.
Tierra del Fuego...
That's the southern tip of South America.
And there are lots of islands there, big and small.
But none called Laripur.
But as I said, it's all post-apocalyptic here and the islands have certainly been renamed over the years.
But how he gets from there to the desert the end of the world remains unexplained, except that he just didn't feel comfortable on the island after the death of his parents.
Yet that would surely be an adventure too, how long do you think he has been adrift on the ocean?
Is there another access to the desert? That would be important to know if the Valley of Dawn has now collapsed!
But this question is not asked.

Jim and Lukas now tell their story and what task they have to fulfil.
And now comes something that none of the thousand wise men in Mandala had even dreamed of.
Mr Tur Tur will help our friends by coming along.
Yes, he will accompany them all the way out of the desert.
Not only will he give them enough provisions and supplies, no, he will show them the way!
I'm sure every Mandalanian can take a leaf out of that book!
Phew, I'm talking myself into a rage again.
Jim, of course, wants to see the illusory giant effect again before they set off.
This is also described again, for the 4th or 5th time now since the last chapter we read how Mr Tur Tur gets bigger and smaller, contrary to our expectations.
Well, I got it already.
A bit much repetition.
It's night and let's continue the adventure!

As I said, a wonderful chapter that holds a lot of new things for children.

Next week we cross rocks, but it's not a valley of twilight this time.
