Beautiful trees.
I love the leaves. Where I am, I don't rake or blow them around, but the fall and winter winds will whirl them into the woods naturally before next spring and the bits that are left will be mulch for the lawn.
That is one scary looking thistle. Thankfully, I don't think the are around here. I love going barefoot in the grass in the summer. Sometimes that are little surprises in the grass that you can't see before you step on them. Normally not too many though and NOTHING that looks like that !

That was certainly one of the biggest thistles I have ever seen!
In town the leaves can clog up storm drains and cause flooding if we get heavy rains or rapid snow melt.
