Today Is A Typical Example Of Why A Schedule Cannot Be Set In Stone...

Well, okay. My day has been nicely turned upside-down today with us being without electricity for the biggest part of the day.

I only learned about what caused the problem after our electricity came back on a few minutes ago. For the past almost 5 hours...no electricity, no internet, no nothing. So having no internet, I didn't receive any notifications from nobody either because I didn't have mobile data on my phone... Brilliant.

Anyhow, apparently, a transformer has blown...

I was still busy checking notifications and doing my replies this morning when all of a sudden everything started flickering...on, off, on, off...and I realized I should rather switch everything off before I get any damage to my computer...

I just had it switched off and gone was all the power in the house.

With temperatures of 39 to 40 degrees, Celcius (about 102 F), and then you can easily add about another 6 to 7 degrees Celcius for what they call "the reel feel" temperature when considering the humidity, I knew I was in for a scorcher.

No air conditioning, no fans....no nothing...just heat...lol!

I opened everything. Anything that could open, I opened it...lol! Doors, windows...everything!

And then frustration started setting in... Having the day planned, and then suddenly not being able to do what you had planned. If it was just an interruption and it's over and done with, it would still be fine...

But now there is that uncertainty...

How long is this going to last? Will the electricity come back on before tonight? What if some of the food supplies in the freezer start going off due to the heat if there is a long interruption in the power supply?

"Phone the city council and find out" you might say...

Okay, I really don't want to be the grumpy one...but really... I have learned from the past.

When these things happen you are already frustrated. Then you try to phone the authorities to get some clarity...just to listen to their silly little tunes on the switchboard for up to 20 minutes before someone thinks... "maybe we should answer the phone"...

And that will be the person who someone held a gun to her head and forced her to go to work... Well, that's the impression you get when you hear the tone of voice... (I wanted to say when you hear the excitement...but just now you'll think I'm serious about the excitement...lol).

You explain the reason for your call, and all you get is "please hold"... another 15 to 20 minutes before you get someone who is getting tired of the phone ringing...

Again you explain the reason for your call.

"Yes, we are aware of it"... silence...

"Well, what seems to be the problem", you'll ask.

"We don't know, but we've sent out the technician to sort out the problem", would be the reply.

"Well, okay. Can you tell me how long you think this will last?", you'll ask.

"No, we don't know. The technician is working on the problem", is normally the reply.

Okay (fuming by now), you'll just "gently" put down the phone and with a big smile of relief tell whoever is with you how helpful these people were and you now know exactly what the situation is all about.

There's a problem. They are aware of it and they have sent out their technician to fix it.

Uhm...oh yes, you actually knew there was a problem before you made the call and would expect them to look into it. The only difference now is the cost of the call you've just made...

So, what's the sense in making a phone call if I know the answer I'm going to get? I've tried to put a little humor in here (for my own sanity as well...lol), but really, when you're already frustrated, it's not really all that funny...

So, today I decided that I just refuse to get upset and stressed out. It is what it is...and I'll just wait it out.

It was warm and not very comfortable, but I just relaxed and went over some stuff in my mind, making some notes on the go.

Then it also struck me...

I became involved with a photography community, #Wednesdaywalk. In the process, I discovered how much I actually enjoy photography.

My family encouraged me to take it further and learn more about the topic of photography.

My youngest daughter is involved in the photography industry and she decided to lend me one of her cameras.

She also gave me a book about photography which describes various techniques and teaches you a lot about photography.

I always try to squeeze in some time to read through this book. But today, I decided this is the ideal time to actually use the time constructively and read some chapters in the book.

So, though it was hot, the day didn't turn out all that bad after all.

The electricity came back on, and here I am, making a post about the day.

I am still relaxed. I know what caused the problem, but I've made the best of it.

It seems as if this whole week is just running a course of its own...lol. First my my daughter got bitten by a dog in a public area, and obviously I had a hard time focusing on what I had planned for that day too.

Now, today, I was stuck with no electricity...

When the electricity came back on, My phone went wild with all the notifications coming through all at once. I didn't check everything immediately and thought I would first create some content.

Notifications kept coming through and I kept working.

Then, as I sat down for supper (yes, it is evening here already), I quickly scrolled over the notifications on my phone...to see a reminder notification of a group discussion I was planning to attend tonight over at @dreemport. With everything that was just going everywhere, except where I planned it to go...it totally slipped my mind.

According to the alert, the discussion would start in 15 minutes...but that was already about 45 minutes ago...

As I checked, the discussion was already in full swing.

So, maybe I should sit out on this one and hope I can join them next week...

Okay, the week is coming towards the end of the week...but what next...lol?

I can honestly say up until now, at least 50% of my week did not go as planned...but I turned it into content that I could publish. Call it a little glimpse "behind the scenes" if you want.

At least there is not much of the week left that can go wrong...lol!

So, what do you do when things are spiraling out of control? Does it happen to you too? Or is it just me...?

Tell us about it in the comment section.

Thank you for reading my post.

Loosing power is so frustrating I don’t normally call to see what is going on gir similar reasons and also knowing probably every one else is also calling and the lines are swamped and hence the long waits

Cool your daughter got you the book and you made time to read some of it

I found my way here via #dreemport

As you say, it's pretty useless to call.

Yes, I was pretty glad I had the book. So in the end the time actually came in pretty handy to do some reading...lol.

Thanks for your comment and to @dreemport for sending you over!

I hate it when the electricity is gone. You would have planned your day without knowing it would turn out to be something else.
We didn't have light for a day and the next day, my phone was almost down and I was thinking what would happen especially as a writer and having to make a post on the platforms I am. Someone fortunately switched on the generator and I was able to plug my phone. I couldn't press my phone and there was a novel I stopped reading which I used the opportunity to read and I was able to grasp some knowledge. My phone was 100% fully charged and thank God I didn't lose😄
I did enjoyed your article especially the part you were narrating how speaking to make a complain could be. @dreemport

Oh, it can be utterly frustrating!

We didn't have light for a day and the next day, my phone was almost down and I was thinking what would happen especially as a writer and having to make a post on the platforms I am

My mind started wandering in the same direction...lol!

But I'm glad you could catch up on your reading too, and that you enjoyed my "conversation"...lol.

Thank you for your comment. I really do appreciate it!

And thank you to @dreemport for sending you over!

Power outage is normal thing here..lol. In fact, the abnormal thing is for power to be stable for more than 24 hours. You will begin to wonder if someone at the transmitting station forgot to flip the switch.

What I'm trying to say is that its different strokes for different folks. A whole day or even 2 being disrupted due to power outage is one of the most normal thing around here. I will need a bit of therapy if I ever relocate to a better country.

Wow, that sounds horrible. Maybe you should get that guy who forgets to flip the switch and pay him to work overtime...lol.

No, all jokes aside, that cannot be nice...

But thank you for stopping by and sharing that with us.

I guess you ain't use to the power going out and that's why it affected you so much. I am already use to not having power for days in Nigeria... We don't even bother anymore.. We make use of it anytime we see it and when we don't, we find alternatives...

You guys must be so lucky to get a blown transformer repaired within 5hours.. If it were to be in Nigeria, that area will be out of power for more than a month... That's how bad the situation in Nigeria is when it comes to electricity.

I remember the story of your daughter that was bitten by the dog... How is she now? Did you guys open a case with the owner of the dog?

There are some times things gets out of control like this for me.. It happens to everybody.. You just have to be in control of these things that seems to be out of control. Take charge and always remember to take it to God in prayers. He will always make a way where there seems to be no way....

I pray your next week will be better than this week...

Wow, that must be bad to battle like that where power is concerned in Nigeria.

My daughter is doing well, thank you for asking. She has to go for a series of injections until the end of November though.

The hospital opened a case and the matter will be taken further indeed. I also went with my son-in-law and informed the owners of the dogs about the consequences.

Yes, I do believe we should do what we can and from there leave it in God's hands.

Thank you for your prayers. I appreciate it.

And thank you to @dreemport for sending you here.
