Cầu Mân Quang : Fishing boats in the harbor with solar eclipse (unseen)

Salutations follow bloggers,

There are a variety of boats that can be found all around the world. From carriers to ice breakers, no matter what type of boat you go from, from one from another, they all have their own personality.

A fishing boat is much like a car or bike, in that it has its own personality. Everybody has their preferences but for me, the fishing boats that I see the most are the ones that are painted in bright colors, all decorated with flowers and patterns, and just very interesting. When I look at them, I feel like I am looking at happy homes, or indivviduals.

Reminds me a little bit of the Inuit people, and how they believe that their homes are living creature in which they walk into each night. These boats, while each one is a boat much like each of us are humans, they all have different personalities, different characteristics, they weathered the storms differently, much like humans, who have weathered life differently, with different quirks and personalities. These fishing vessels, are living creatures.

Today I wwent out to see the solar eclipse, however due to overcast clouds, I could not see the eclipse, so instead I walked over to Marina and explored some of these Vietnamese fishing boats from the shore.

The following photos were taken at "Cầu Mân Quang". Located here https://goo.gl/maps/z52P9QeTpYBTRvnH9 .

Cầu Mân Quang is the bridge that goes over the small Marina that is known as "Bến tàu Vũng Thùng" (https://goo.gl/maps/hC5YWuBKy2cdkpVt6). It is a nice place to stand and watch the boats, if you don't mind the smell of fish wafting in.

Here we can see three vessels anchored together, getting to go out once again capture fish, I assume.

I do kinda wonder how they choose who the anchor to, how they know what boats to tie to, and then what about if the one they tie to has to leave, what did they do?

20211119_172624-01.jpeg

Perhaps all these fishing boats leave at the same time each day, they're all friends that show up clocking to work at the same time, going out do the fishing at the same time, and then come home at the same time.

20211119_172636-01.jpeg

I wonder if people sleep on these boats each night, I would imagine some of them do... They have to leave so early or late each day to catch the fish.

20211119_172655-01.jpeg

Here is a person pulling themselves out to the boat on a smaller boat, like a baby boat for the bigger boats.

20211119_172704-01.jpeg

Off, in the distance you see the sun setting behind the clouds, That is actually tail end of a solar eclipse happening as well.

20211119_172718-01.jpeg

I played with some postprocessing in this picture to get this funky murky feeling.

20211119_172919-01.jpeg

I do wonder if these boats all leave at the same time, and if they do, I imagined I'd be quite the site to see... all the engines chugging away, heading out to sea.

20211119_172924-01.jpeg

For real that's sun is having an amazing solar eclipse and here I am, earthbound, with the clouds blocking this amazing cosmic ballet.

20211119_172945-01.jpeg

What lease they get to sit here in the Marina look at boats...

20211119_172934-01.jpeg

They really are cool boats, or at least I think they're really cool looking boats Again each one with the personalities, like this one with two gigantic pieces of wood coming out the back, I think for fishing with a net, but takes up so much space.

20211119_172956-01.jpeg

Closer up shot, of this long arm boat. I wwonder if they go out as well each night and if they go out last or first, if they have to tell other people to watch out for this giant piece of wood.

The dichotomy between the building and the boats I felt was pretty cool in this next photo.

20211119_172709-01.jpeg

Another thing I do find fascinating about these boats is all the knots that they use. The texture of the rope, the way it is tied, and it makes me wonder about its history. Fascinating things.

Vietnamese fishing boats come in all different shapes and sizes, but they all have three things in common: they all catch fish, they all need fuel to run, and they all belong to somebody. But don't let all these similarities fool you, there are some distinct differences among these boats. Some are long and slender, while others are shorter and heavier. Some are sleek and shiny, others are rough looking. Some are broad-shouldered, others are slimmer. It takes a special heart to spend so much time out on the water in the same boat day after day, year after year. Such personalities embedded into each boat.

I hope you enjoyed some of these photos, and next time you look at a boat you wonder about its personality as well.

Cheers and see you again soon.

What a nice take on boats, you're very right. Although there are none in this post, and zero in Cambodia at all, In find the Vietnamese old-school sailing ships absolutely eye-catching. I haven't really traveled Vietnam thoroughly, and never been to the coast, so I don't know how common they still are.

I did used to see one here and there off the coast in Cambodia where I used to live because we were across the sea from Phu Quoc, or Koh Tral as it's called in Khmer. Awesome shots my friend.
