Does Your Content Really Have Value?

avatar

I was watching my friend Jenn Nieto's video blog post yesterday and she spoke on the value of a persons creative content and what determines it’s worth.

After thinking about this for awhile, I realized that I agree with her stance. She said that (and I’m paraphrasing), that it doesn’t have to be a 3 page post in order for it to have a high value; what matters is the content! If you’ve created content and provided value to your readers, then the size of the post is irrelevant.

The very fact that you’ve done something of meaning has value!

featureimagestemplate.png

There is so much truth in this that I had to speak on it because truthfully, I’m 100% guilty of this myself! I have had several posts where my heart wasn’t behind it. I know I did my 30 day challenge where I posted every single day and I did enjoy doing that. I will admit I feel a sense of pressure that I put on myself to continue that when I really don’t need to feel any pressure or do anything that doesn’t align with my goals.

By posting every single day, amidst all the other things I want to get done in the run of a day, I have very little time left for engaging, curating and checking out other awesome blogs on #Hive and #CTPtalk.

Moving forward, I am going to set my blog posts for every other day and of course, whenever I get inspired! Then on the days in-between my posts, I really want to focus on curating and working to strengthen my relationships that I’m forming with people at Hive.

There are so many fabulous blogs over there and I will admit, it bums me out when I don’t get a chance to check them out!

We’ll see how this goes moving forward and if it doesn’t help, I’ll adjust as I need to.

Remember to take time to figure out what works best for YOU so you can always put your best foot forward and get the results you desire. Working on someone else’s schedule or copying other people will only take you off the path you’re supposed to be on.

Thanks Jenn @pixiepost for the topic and food for thought! You’re always inspiring me.

Generally, for my 2 cents worth (literally my vote value) value is measured in heart not in length.

It's amazing to me how many really good blogs there are on this platform. I recently got my nose rubbed in it by the PowerHouseCreatives Thrive on Hive initiative. We had over 100 entries from outside the community. I'm still working my way through them, but there's a whole world out there that I don't even know about.

My friend @galenkp has a post today on commitment to engagement. You want to see some huge numbers you should look at https://peakd.com/comment-commitment/@galenkp/comment-commitment-32-500-by-31-december-2020#@bigtom13/qewc2d

Clearly it hasn't hurt him to comment til it feels good...

Commenting helped me get where I am, and I enjoy it too. Of course, that's not everyone's trip...We are all different so will all do things accordingly. I know what it means for me, commenting. It is one of the enjoyable aspects here, engaging in a little to and fro with people like yourself. Relationships are important here, and even if they weren't, they're important to me.

I agree. I enjoy blogging and creating videos, but for me right now, commenting is the best way to contribute, and generate CTP Tokens for myself and the writer whose post or comment I am responding to.

I think a balance of all aspects is the way to go. Blogging and commenting/engagement.

Agree with you 100%... It doesn't matter the number of words in the post, as sometimes is enough just 1 word to inspire someone... and that's already a value in YOUR post... It fulfilled its mission :)

And like you said, the same routine doesn't work for everyone... If you are doing daily posts and 0 engagement through comments (on your and others posts), then you will just remain in the same place for a long time... Believe me, I have done that... lol... And I was hitting my head in the wall asking "Why my number of followers and upvotes are constantly the same?"

So, you have made a good decision... If you can do both on the same day, then split it for a separate day... One day post creation, the next day engagement (and consume other's content)...

Like Jenn said in her comment, it's great to try and change things. You have to adapt or you'll fall behind.

Thank you so much @jangle. I am humbled & most importantly of all, you just provided valuable content in this post.

Yes, content that provides value for others doesn't have to be long & rambling. I have encountered posts at times that were only a few sentences long or consisted of a 1 min video with so much value, it would stay with me.

On the other hand, I have seen some long ones that were rambling & didn't provide any value for me. Now, of course, it's all a matter of perspective but if one has value to provide, there shouldn't be limitations in how it is expressed.

I think that is great you're trying that new routine. I am always changing mine up so I can give attention to others as well as create my own content. It can be a balancing act sometimes & it's even okay to switch it up occasionally if you find it isn't working for me anymore. We are all changing & evolving :)

Awesome post, girl! Love the logo as well! :) 💚

It is our actions and way of doing the things that makes the wonders or bring changes not our positions or post that we hold.

I agree with you and Jenn. It doesn't need to be a book to have meaningful content. I also have seen many posts with a short amount of content that packed a powerful message. Also it is good to change things up to get a routine that works best for you and your schedule in life.

Well said about quality over quantity Janelle, it's the value that you have put into it, and it's the value that the reader see's when they read it, not always the same, but if you have put your heart into it then it will show, thanks for sharing.

So agree with you there. offline life tends to get in the way of what we are trying to do online. and I am also guilty of just getting something posted with out much thought. Thank for the awesome post @jangle

I am right there with you. I was spending so much time creating content (posts/videos/etc.) that I didn't feel like I was able to get much else done. I have pretty much gone to the "I'll post when I am inspired or when it builds my business and spend more time on other people" model. Great minds, huh?

I think it's sometimes easy to tell, especially when you're familiar with a persons writing style and know their work, when their heart isn't in it.

It's the difference between the ppl who may be here for the money short term vs long term. Of course, sometimes we just have an off day! And that will always be okay.

@jangle, while I missed @pixiepost post (which I hate to do since she is so encouraging), I totally agree with your post. I feel overwhelmed trying to keep up with it all. I also am like you and need to figure out a way to fit it all in and been thinking about a similar schedule. I hope things work out for you!

We all have a natural rhythm in life. Working outside of your natural rhythm is truly stressful. I have come to realize that. But showing up daily really works! 😉👍🏼 may you have much enjoyment in your Hive journey 😊😊

I agree. Like Zoltan said, sometimes all it takes is 1 word to reach someone and provide value for that person.

Great post Janelle. I saw this earlier on Sweeva I think it was and Tweeted it. It really points out the most important things to remember. I agree that it does not have to be 3 pages. I like short, sweet and sharing of great value.

Hi @jangle!
I read your posts, I mean not just this one, a couple of posts that you published recently. This is the first time I am making a comment. The way you express yourself and make your point, that's impressive. I like it very much.

Whatever we want to do online whether it is building a brand, reaching our target audience, getting on the first page of Google, we cannot think of that without content. And the value your content provides, that makes the difference.

Looking forward to reading your next post.
