Do you ever look around and wonder why it seems that so many godless people are prospering? I don't know the hearts of these people, so perhaps the term "godless" might seem harsh - but it does seem that many people who are not living with God in their lives seem to prosper in many ways...at least when it comes to earthly blessings!

There is an entire Psalm directed at believers who may feel frustrated and forgotten about because of this happening. It's Psalm 37 written by David and it's titled in the ESV bible "He Will Not Forsake His Saints". If you're a believer in Jesus Christ, guess what? That Saint is you!

This is a long Psalm (40 verses to be exact!) but it is so poignant and worth studying! I don't know if there is a Christian in the crowd that won't be able to relate to this Psalm.

I love that each verse at the beginning starts with descriptive call to action steps for Christians to take in order to stand strong in their faith. Some of these steps we need to be reminded of often.

Verse 1 "Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers!"
In other words, pay no mind to those who are living outside of the law that we are called to live by as Christians. God's law! Even though it may seem like sometimes they are prospering more or have more blessings, they don't. Their blessings are fleeting. The verse continues with, "For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb."
The blessings that believers will receive later as promised by God are priceless.

Verse 3 "Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness"
The Lord will reward our faithfulness to Him. That's His promise! All we have to do is trust Him and keep our gaze focused on that. Trusting in God helps us to remain faithful because you start to see that He never fails.

Verse 4 and 5 say, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (verse 4) and "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and he will act" (verse 5)
This is probably my favorite part of the Psalm. I believe that God will give you the desires of your heart....but there is a twist. Ready? When you delight yourself in the Lord and live for Him, He changes your heart for the better and your desires change because of that. You no longer long for things of this world and you start to long for the desires of God because you're living for Him! I can be a witness to this change because He's done it for me. Praise God!

The message in Psalm 37 is pretty clear. Trust in God and remain faithful to Him. He is a just God and in the end, you will be rewarded for serving Him. The rewards will be much greater than any rewards we can possibly obtain on earth. Pay no mind to others who think they are rich but don't know God. Our reward cannot be price matched in a store - we'll be with God eternally. What can possibly compare to that? Just keep your eyes focused on God, not the ways of the world.

"Better is the little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked"
Psalm 37:16

"Turn away from evil and do good; so shall you dwell forever. For the Lord loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off."
Psalm 37:27-28

"The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip"
Psalm 37:30-31

"The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; he is their stronghold in the time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him"
Psalm 37:39-40
