A Doctor's Rant 6 : A New Kind of Stench

(Edited)

I ll usually laugh at the new inventions of weak and powerless people because it would hold no water, it won't go far and after a little notice, it will fade away. But when people in power decide to toy with their tail and wag it anywhere they like, just so they can adjust their sitting position to earn more comfort. It saddens me.
Really it is true to the writing that "when the wicked is in power, the people suffer".

If you have been following my Previous Doctor Rants posts, you ll have noticed I use this column to express my dissatisfaction to anyone who care to read about the mishappenings and unjust practices being netted out to medical Doctors in Nigeria. Despite these people sacrificing their lives and putting their family at risk and danger. They are ill treated and often abandoned, not paid salaries, no incentive for the COVID19 outbreak allowance, No health insurance, No improved facility to make saving lives better and more efficient.
These situation has made many Doctors in Nigeria decide to leave the country in search of "greener pastures and make a living to fend for all our dependants.

It is not like we don't like home, but when home is not the best, charity will suffer.

However in recent turn of events, I must say that the decay has advanced to a new level of deterioration. At this point it is almost obvious that our supposed leaders seem to be practicing slave masters.
A link was shared on twitter last week week about how a certain minister of Labour who is a Doctor himself or was. Now parades to say that Nigerian Medically trained personnel's who Want to practice abroad must first serve 9 years in Nigeria before being granted to travel out in search of greener pastures.

This is very sad. To say the least. The very thought that we got to this point. How have we gotten here.

To further analyze this statement.
•It means that any medical practice trained in Nigeria will remain servitude to the country for 9 years before writing any exams to qualify him to practice anywhere.

•They claim that to study Medicine in Nigeria is cheap, and mentioned some seeking amounts spent to study medicine in other countries.

•Needless to state the fact that most of these leader have children outside the country also studying or practicing Medicine.

•Which country doesn't bill international students, even in Nigeria, international students are not paying what Nigerian students pay. They pay more, for what we have to offer

•What makes Nigerian medical education so special? That we are doing well out there is not because of what we were thought from the Nigerian schools alone, but because of the learning environment outside the country.

•More so, we know where we came from and are determined to make a difference out there, so we strive for the best.

•Medical education in Nigeria is not free, across boards, private, state and federal universities pay huge sums to study the same medicine.
So why does it sound like we where given free of Charge.

I remember being told that most of these seniors and elder in the medical field received scholarships to study both home and abroad. Yet, they have made the life and progress of those behind them difficult.

Now what if I choose to travel out within the 9 years.. Will my papers be withheld?

Let me hope that a new wind will come and blow this stench away, it is killing me. I pray this doesn't see the light of day.

Need I say that it is within our rights to travel as citizens of the world. But any thing can happen when it comes to our Nigerian space, I m eager to hear what the Medical Associations and Council have to say to this.

If they are bordered by the brain drain, then let them do something about the state of health care in the country and stop acting live slave masters. We are not slaves. We are Doctors.

okay, this sounds crazy? Do they have the jurisdiction to make such unseen laws? this I preposterous! How do these old fools sit in the comfort of their homes and make sure laws? At this point, it is best to leave while one can.

A law is only as good as e paper it’s written on. If you want out, you can get out and not look back. There’s such thing as disobeying a law that is unjust. Civil disobedience is a powerful and critically important thing in the right context.

I totally agree with you.
Very much said in the right context.
But the civil discipline in this part of the world is somewhat skewed and dangerous.

This is the height of illiteracy. You'd see that the FG is highly untrained. No qualifications whatsoever. They are being led by their primitive instincts. What a sad revelation!

Well, the Leadership training is important as it stands.
But I guess thats one of the reasons they have paid advisers.
A periodic mental checkup is also quite Pivotal.
