SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! WOOD NYMPH

avatar

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Wood Nymph card. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Featured Monster: Wood Nymph

Wood Nymph is a earth splinter card that costs 4 mana. It has starts off with the tank heal skill and later learns the strengthen skill at level 6. The tank heal card heals the card in the front-most position and the strengthen skill increases the maximum health of each card by 1. There is 36 mana available and there is no limitations on which splinters you can use.

I don't really use this card often but I do own a level 1 version of this card. The low speed and health are one of the reasons why I don't use it because I think it dies too fast in silver and gold league at level 1. However it is a great supporting mage and the tank heal can easily make or break a battle.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

rule set.png

The rule set this time is enrage and lost legendaries. This means that melee monsters will get a 1.5x attack and speed buff when they are damaged and no legendary cards can be used in this fight. It's an interesting rule set to use and I think it makes things quite interesting as you have to think about your cards.

summoner.png

The summoner I choose to use this time is the Wizard of Eastwood. When I play earth, I tend to use this summoner quite often because it is the only leveled up earth summoner I have. The buff itself can be hit or miss depending on my opponent's lineup but I still think its fairly powerful under the right situations. As there is the enrage ability, the opponent is more likely to use melee monsters and they are more likely to have armor.

Before doing this battle for the challenge, I was having trouble doing a water quest and I felt that I wanted a line up that would do well even against mages. So my front-line tank is a Unicorn Mustang with high health, speed and attack. It also has the void magic ability to make it live longer if they do use magic cards against me. After that, I think I would have a reach monster and the best one with health available to me would be the Orc Sergeant. After that would be just some filler cards that can either deal damage or take some hits. There is a new chaos legion card with taunt and I think that would help me more as I don't want the Wood Nymph to die too fast.

Round 1

round 1.png

At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think I am at a disadvantage because it's full of melee monsters. I really dislike fighting Lorna because the ability makes me have to attack more times in order to kill off my opponents. The only good thing is that there are only a few attackers available and the restore shield ability will be wasted on anything besides Shield Bearer.

Round 2

round 2.png

I already lost my taunt tank and I only took out half of my opponent's front-line tank. My chances aren't looking so great as most of my monsters were all melee monsters and they are debuffed by my opponent.

Round 3

round 3.png

My chances are looking even worst now that his sneak monster have finished off my Goblin Thief and Wood Nymph. While I am not out of the fight just yet, I am not liking my chances.

Round 4

round 4.png

I have finally removed my opponent's Shield Bearer so there is still a chance for me to win this fight. However this would require me to dodge at least one of the two attacks by my opponent's monster.

Round 5

round 5.png

I did dodge one attack and my Unicorn Mustang should attack first next round. So now my chances will now rely on whether or not my Unicorn Mustang hits and the sandworm to miss it's attack.

Round 6

round 6.png

It played out exactly like how I wanted and the Sand Worm missed. Now that it has come this far and the inspiration on the sand worm is gone, my Screeching Vulture and Unicorn Mustang can take out the Sand Worm before it attacks. If it does, I think the match is over. Otherwise I think I have lost because I don't have enough health to tide over the rest of the damage.

conclusion.png

It was a long fight but I did finally manage to win this fight because the sand worm was killed. I have to say luck was on my side for this match and I usually say that the luck is against me.

Conclusion

The battle this time around also did not go as I expected. My mind was stuck with the premise that my opponent would use magic cards so I built my set up to counter that. Then again the rule set was enrage so melee monsters are buffed up. The start of the match was a huge mess and I didn't think I could turn it around. However it did turn around and the dodges done by the Unicorn Mustang and Screeching Vulture were amazing. I guess the difference in speed really matters when you want to dodge attacks. My wood nymph as a healer didn't do so well because of the sneak monsters because my taunt monster died too fast.

I am scared of my opponent's line-up. It's a natural counter to any line up using plenty of physical monsters and I use them quite often. I was just lucky and I think my opponent would win 90% of the time against my line up. So I don't think there was anything he could do better except put that chicken earlier. If he had placed it in the 2nd or 3rd slot, then he would of been able to sneak in a few more attacks and I would of lost.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would of done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Wood Nymph is an awesome card, I like how she is 2 mana less than the Goblin, which works great to have a healer for lower mana battles :-)

It definitely is but I just don't use it often because it has low health. The heals can really come in useful if the opponent doesn't have sneak, snipe or opportunity though.

I hear that especially being a level 1 player I have had my Healers wiped out in the first couple of rounds it is sometimes frustrating so I sometimes when possible set up some decoys at the end of the lineup to take the fire away from the healers but it does not always work. 👍
