Sorry about your health, I hope you're recuperating well.
I believe coming out of poverty or lack should be done discreetly. When an individual had access to money or life changing situations, people around help to drag such persons down by their own wants. They tend to see the upcoming individual as a means to their own wealth rather than seeking out their own means.
Also as you said, situations can spur an individual to seek out wealth.

Those that also learnt the hard way, took their time to come out of hardship are usually careful spending (the wise ones) though some have the propensity to display affluence at a too early stage.

Poverty in itself isn't bad, sometimes I just see it as the ground zero that a lot of people come from by default. It comes with it's own positives and sometimes the lessons we learn from it helps us on our way up.
