Christmas Gift Shopping, How Big Is Your List?

avatar

Christmas to me is a season I enjoy, aside from the Advent church celebrations with the carols that seem to be getting obsolete, exchanging gifts is one I cherish most.

Growing up, I experienced my parents' sharing culture, for them, it was mainly cooking and sharing meals with neighbors, I recall my mom would dish up meals and send us to go deliver to friends and neighbors with some welcome to visit to share a meal with us, it felt great, and perhaps that spirit of giving influenced my life over the years.

For me, though it isn't sharing of meals, I enjoy other edible things like chocolates, cookies, wafer sticks, and nonedible gifts like cards. Yes, I still love the physical cards, I am still old-school in that regard. The little handwritten notes of Christmas wishes are beautiful, I still have some cards I received over five years ago, they are like love letters.

I do however notice my gifting list has dropped over the years. This year I only shopped for 3 people which is less than the number of people over 5 years ago.
The contributing factor to the fewer people I share gifts with during Christmas is my friendship circle has narrowed over the years, I wouldn't necessarily associate it to expenses as I buy gifts that are affordable for me and the thought is what counts mainly.

I have three lovely women I have maintained good relationships with over the years, two of which I refer to as my mom, though not my biological mother, one 69 and the other 86 years old. And the third one is a very good friend and sister who is on Hive by the username @dianadora.

It only cost me $3.11 for gifts, I have a Christmas card from the previous year so I don't have to buy cards this year. I didn't expect to spend that little though, I was happy to have found gifts that fit with that price range as my immediate financial goal is to book my flight to Benin in advance so I don't end up paying higher in February. So every dollar is a lot more useful to me now as I plan my move from South Africa to Benin.

It is a season for sharing, if we can reach out to the needy the better, how big is your Christmas gift shopping list? I am glad to have gotten away with a $3.11 gift shopping.

Wonderful… yes, it is the gesture that counts the most.
The sharing together. Hope you have a lovely time Joe 🎄🎄🎅🏻🎅🏻👋🏻👋🏻
We are spending these days with 9 people together we didn’t see for a while. All are my in-laws and extended family of theirs. I only shopped in the last 2 days. Just little hampers so they all have something to unwrap.
It’s more the sharing of a meal and good time for us all…
Let’s enjoy it all 🎄🎄😊

That is beautiful, Jackie, am looking forward to next Christmas when I will be spending it with my family which we haven't seen for 15 years, that's too long lol.

I just love the spirit around gathering together to share a meal and chat. It must be a lovely time for you and your family and you did well to have shopped for them as well.
Let's enjoy the season 🎄🎆🎇

Never count the cost, we don't buy presents...

I purchased gammon (smoked ham) to boil in 2 liter coke-cola, chicken and beef to roast, variety of vegetables, salads items, fruit cake. Big day cooking tomorrow in the morning, afternoon with family around the table. Monday family and friends arrive for cold meats and salads, two days this year I no longer manage big groups as in previous years.

Food cooked is how one shares love around, no giving of gifts unless there are children, now a thing of the past... 🙃

Hahaha, I guess the cooking and sharing of meal thing will come to life for me when I have a family or when am back home to family, here I just buy gifts which I enjoy though.
Give me a card and I will be happy 😃

Enjoy cooking and sharing a meal with the family tomorrow Joan.
Merry Christmas 🎄🎆✨

I remember when we had a postal system and cards would arrive, posted by out by last week of November to insure they got to the destination on time.

Yes I have kept my cards from over the years used to love writing them and receiving!

!PIZZA will be required by Tuesday when I will be sick and tired of kitchen duties at least there is a promise of a cooler day with rain over the next two days!

Enjoy your Christmas !LUV

My shopping list is empty. My immediate family just does dinner and we don't bother with the gifts. It's been that way since I was a kid and I think it's better financial-wise.

That is cool as well, provided there is a gathering over a meal, that is another lovely way to enjoy the season together as a family.

Indeed! It's always the thoughts that counts and the effort that goes to creating memories. Physical cards and handwritten notes are the best at reflecting that as one has to also think about what to write and express themselves.

Great gift choice! Anything that has trace of chocolate makes a great snack for most women😊.

Well I didn't really put much thought to Christmas gifts this year like I used too. So my list barely exists! Hehehe..

Physical cards and handwritten notes are the best at reflecting

Absolutely it gives me a better reflection and getting rid of them in the future becomes an unwilling task for me.

Women love their chocolates so one is like to get it right when choosing gifts for women.

Happy Holidays Humbe 🎇🎄
