10 Suggestions To Improve Emotional Wellness
According to SAMSHA, there are eight dimensions of wellness. Emotional, Environmental, Financial, Intellectual, Occupational, Physical, Social, and Spiritual.
Today we are going to talk about emotional wellness and eight ways to increase it.
1.) Relaxation Exercises - Try exercises like "box breathing." Breathe in for a count of 5, Hold for a count of 5, exhale for a count of 5, and hold for a count of 5.
2.) Take A Hot Bath - We all know how relaxing it is to sit in a jacuzzi. Not all of us have a jacuzzi, but most of us have a bathtub. Why not use it? Fill it with some hot water, play some relaxing music and relax
3.) Aromatherapy - Do you get hungry with the smell of bacon or other food. Certain scents can affect our moods. Try using essential oils in a diffuser. Lavender oil with calm you down. Peppermint oil will lift you up. Experiment with different oils
4.) Talk With Friends - It is essential to talk with friends, whether in person or on the phone. When we have a bad day, venting to a friend can keep us sane. Spending time with people we enjoy will make us happy. So be sure to spend time with your friends.
5.) Positive Thinking - My wife sometimes asks me, "what's wrong?" and I say, "Nothings wrong, maybe something is right? There are always at least two ways of looking at things. Stop focusing on the negatives. Even the negative things in life can be positive in that they help us grow. Start focusing on the positive.
6.) Be Around Fun People - It's not just important to talk to friends, but it is important to do things with them. This is especially good if the people are just fun in general.
7.) Do Fun Things - We often create to-do lists, but do you structure in time to do things you enjoy? Make it a priority! Add them to your schedule.
8.) Smile - My Dad used to tell me when I was depressed to look in the mirror and smile. It is hard to be depressed when you are smiling. Maybe it's a fake till you make it attitude, but you will feel better if you smile just a little
9.) Get Good Sleep - It's almost impossible to feel good if you do not get a good night's sleep. Create some sleep rituals, so your body knows that it is time to unwind. Try to go to bed at the same time each night. Make sleep a priority.
10.) Get Some Sunlight - The state with the highest amount of depression is Alaska. This is because of the lack of sunlight. Especially in the winter months, try to get out at least 30 minutes at noontime for natural light. Also, don't be afraid to turn on the lights in your house or use a lightbox. Nothing can be worse than sitting in the dark.
