Hello good morning to everyone, thanks so much for checking my blog. I schooled in the northern part.of the Country and I have witnessed so many traditional marriage and I always enjoy how the ceremony is being celebrated. it's important to note that every tribe and region have their own different ways of handling marriage rites and they are very unique in their own way.

The traditional marriage in hausa land is majorly based on Islamic rites and they do not use too much time like that of Yoruba and Igbo traditional marriage. Although many people in this part speak Hausa but different tribes are also present in this region and they have their own different languages. However, the stages been followed is somehow close to what is obtained in other parts of the country. When a man has chosen the woman he wishes to marry, he must firstly seek permission from the parents of the lady and the family of the bride to be will make sure they conduct a thorough investigation on the background of the man who had showed interest in order to know more about what his religious belief are and so the ethics, also the moral and their family customs and traditions and mist importantly they want to know about his family upbringing.

If the groom to be is approved by the lady's family, they are allowed to meet with her briefly but they are not allowed to do romance or any courting before marriage is not allowed and also discouraged. however, this may not be the tradition in all the tribes in Hausa land.all the tribes present their have their own customs and traditions regarding marriage and they are all unique, although the process discussed above is one of the common method. On their journey to the brides parents to ask for her hand in marriage, the grooms family will take along some items such as Kolanuts, bags of salt, sweets and so on. It's during this their visitation, that the grooms family will explain and also make all their intentions known. Gaisuwais is a kind of approval given and which is formal from the family of the bride. This is where the brides dowry is being bargained.

In most cases, the bride price starts from a small amount which is known as Rubu Dinar in Hausa language. Which means quarter kilogram of Gold piece, this goes to the highest the groom can afford to pay as dowry. It's is mostly acceptable that the bride price be low as possible because according to Islam teachings, the smaller the bride price the higher the blessing to be received by the family.also the wedding date is fixed when they visit by both families and risks otherwise known as the Sarana. The wedding day is called Fatihah and this the day when the two families are being joined together. As party of the tradition in Hausa land, it is the duty of the mango provide a house where they will live and it must be well furnished.

At the wedding, the women are to remain indoors and preparing the bride for the new life and new challenge ahead. This can also be referred to as the bridal shower. The wedding reception in Hausa traditional marriage is known as the Walimah and this is carried out according to the taste of the their families.

At the end of all the celebration, the bride will be moved to her husbands house after getting all the advice from all the family members so that she can be of good behavior and also learn to accommodate and be a good woman. Marriage is not a bed of roses and it's not an easy task but a good woman will enjoy her home.
