But But But....It's Taking Too Long!

avatar

Building an online business, whether it's on the blockchain or elsewhere, takes time!

That's just something most people never want to hear...

In today's day and age, they expect it now, yesterday and within 60 seconds or less.

I wanted to share with you a quote that really helps hammer home the point of 'sticking to it' as well as some insight into exactly...How long it's going to take!

To get lots of whales upvotes on chain....

To get that perfect business model that transforms into a six figure business...

To build a personal brand that people grow to love and trust...

No matter what industry, niche or passion you have...I hope this post helps your journey.

The quote comes from one of my favorite authors on the planet, Jon Gordon...

"When people ask me how long it takes to become an overnight success....I tell them about 10 years!"

A very popular lesson in 'stick-to-it-ness' comes from the 10,000 hour rule that was made famous by Malcom Gladwell. In the lesson, he breaks down why it takes the average human being 10,000 hours to truly 'master' their art and craft.

10,000 hours huh?

So that means, to truly become great at something and you were putting in 20 hours a week to master it. It would take you roughly 10 years to reach that level of 'mastery'. Of course this is all subjective but the point is, most people that find greatness in their chosen field are willing to invest the time needed to see it through....

Take some of these popular examples of brands and leaders that 'finally' found their overnight success:

John Wooden - the legendary college basketball coach for UCLA, won his first NCAA title 20 years after he began to coach.

Wal Mart - Opened their 2nd store...7 years after their first!

Starbucks - Their 5th store was opened 13 years after the company started.

What's the point?

It takes TIME!

Here's the best thing about this fact. Most people WON'T invest the time needed to achieve success. They will give up after a few weeks or months, and then try something new. Only the truly dedicated see this stuff through and yes, there are many factors at play...But they have a greater chance of success!

Let's look at this from examples we see, right here on the blockchain and especially in crypto.

Most people have extremely short attention spans, and if a project isn't 'mooning' within a week or less, they usually lose interest. Closer to home, new members start creating content and give up because a whale didn't upvote them 3 weeks after showing up. It comes down to this simple truth...Most people, don't give this stuff enough time!

So what can you do?

Here's the point I really want to stress to you that may be reading this. If you want to separate yourself from the masses, stick out from the crowd and truly build the reputation as someone who doesn't give up...Give. It. Time!

Invest your time and focus on your chosen niche or industry with every spare minute you can. Your future self will thank you, whether it's 10 years down the road or maybe even a few years less....

But I guarantee you...If you give up, before giving it time, you'll never reach the levels you have always dreamed of!

You've said it all, it takes a lot of time. I have one thing I don't do and that's trying different things especially if the first didn't work. Everything takes time, but sometimes it's not even that, taking that time means putting in that sacrifice, effort and a level of creativeness. Not many have that in their Arsenal.

So true. I mean, how can we possibly get a big enough sample size when we give up after a week or two. I mean, I get it if you are trying something for years and it's not working...Switch it up.

But we are killing our ability to progress when we give up anytime things get rough.

After some period where the numbers stay stuck at ZERO or don't budge from where they have been, that may be the time to make an adjustment. Give it the same amount of time or at least a decent amount of time, and if the numbers move by even 1 then we made progress and we an try something different which is not an adjustment.

As long as we keep moving forward, we'll find what works best for us and then the numbers move steadily if not take off.

Wow.. this is truly motivational. I can not thank you enough for this wonderful piece. I have been here for a month plus and I can tell several times I tend to give up.. but as I read through different stories and information like this one, I became more inspired and motivated to keep on building. Rome wasn't built in a year. True success truly takes time. And I am willing to keep building and waiting. Thanks so kindly.

I was doing things wrong for 1 month or 2 before things got better for me.

At first I just stayed on the blog. "If you build it, they will come" does not work with a new blog on Hive.

So I was looking for communities. When I saw how responsive LeoFinance was, I joined and haven't looked back. Other communities are responsive, but this is where I had my first breakthroughs.

Once you find a place where you feel at home, then you focus on engagement in all its aspects. Not just commenting and replying and upvoting but also reblogs and backlinking.

Most likely we'll be engaging with the same people and that's OK. But we also need to engage with different people daily. The more people see us, the greater the chances for growth on Hive.

It's taking time, but by making these adjustments I'm seeing progress.

I really resonate with the message in this blog. Being in contact with the new generations through my work, I can really feel how for most of the younger adults, everything has to be done immediately and that there is no room for patience and slowly building something strong. Even with my own kids, such a behaviour is already there (note that they are far from being adults), although there are not any examples of impatience at home.

I am afraid our world may pay the consequences of such a behaviour in the long term. Without taking the time to build yourself, especially on what the previous ones did, we are facing a potential loss of expertise in some fields... To be honest, there are of course several factors that could yield this loss of expertise, and the one here (taking the time to do thing right and solidly) is only one of them.

Have a nice week! Cheers!

I have to agree with you. This generation doesn't seem to want to give things time to marinate and slow cook. They want the microwave dinner!

I think consistency makes things quicker. Like if I write 1 article a day for 1 year. That would show results out of compounding. But if I do post 1 comment or 1 article a week, those results would take me nowhere. So the consistent effort after some time would lead to results.

Another thing is that once you get hang of things to save time one has to outsource or automate or do somethings like content creation in advance. That's the only way to reduce the gravity of "taking too long".

If one just writes 1 article or does 1 thing and waits for years, they will quit easily. Consistent efforts for long time gives overnight success. Again that feeling of overnight is for others, we know how hard we worked below.

And think about this...

You have then written 365 articles on your chosen topic or niche...How much more of an 'expert' would you be regarded as?

Yes I agree.. consistent effort over a period of time will yield tremendous results. 👌

Everything requires time and I am not surprised businesses also require time. Most of the success we get isn't instant and it takes time for us to achieve most things. It's a hard fact but that is the truth.

But I think you're reminding me if my old self, not to go back there and I get it!

Everything needs time and hard work with dedication... Results will surely come out even if it isn't exactly the way we planned it.

Thanks for this 🙌

This is absolutely true. We will not see good results in anything we do if we do not invest time and persevere. But impatience and the eagerness to make money fast make many give up and fail even before starting.

In cryptos when they are down many people walk away and it is precisely those who thought they would get rich overnight. In Hive, there are those who stop writing or engaging just because the rewards are down. They are a bit short-sighted when it comes to seeing it is a long term project that requires our effort to achieve good results. And then there are the comparisons that people make which in my opinion is the worst thing they can do, instead of looking at the upvotes of others they should concentrate on their own account, on improving their content, engaging that the rewards will come sooner or later if we have the patience and work on it.

Wow. Your article is really encouraging @jongolson
Being a blockchain, one has to understand Hive in order to make a success out of it. I'm close to two months here and it has been thrilling and at the same time, kind of discouraging journey. But with articles like this, I have a backbone to become well balanced and flourish on Hive. I have learnt to be patient and follow the process.
Also, passion is a pain killer. The more passionate you are about somewhere, the more you're willing to put in all you've got no matter how long it takes to achieve it. One needs to add the ingredient of passion in achieving his set goals.
Thank you so much.

5 years this has been happening to me, it started here, around people that are still here. Homeland security has done nothing at all, they are not here to protect us. Dont we pay them to stop shit like this? The NSA, CIA, FBI, Police and our Government has done nothing. Just like they did with the Havana Syndrome, nothing. Patriot Act my ass. The American government is completely incompetent. The NSA should be taken over by the military and contained Immediately for investigation. I bet we can get to the sources of V2K and RNM then. https://peakd.com/gangstalking/@acousticpulses/electronic-terrorism-and-gaslighting--if-you-downvote-this-post-you-are-part-of-the-problem

i can greatly appreciate this article. Creating Bitcoin MYK set to be one of mankind's greatest inventions i mean in all human history. Thomas Paine championed it.. Dr. Martin Luther King, Milton Friedman, Bishop Tutu, Pope Francis, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg probably Jesus.

All these people and we started the beginning of 2019. Something probably one of the only projects in cryptocurrency that can realistically bring economic prosperity to most of the globe. When you consider all this and what it would take the change the world from my creation.. an intuitive upvote system that knows how to seperate the type of post and not just be based on the money you bring in should be a marvel in itself.. when you factor all of this.. do you know i got crypto people holding bitcoin myk who wants it to pump.. like a pump and dump coin for quick crackhead returns and a weakness and inability to delay short term gratification

Now its not like we got many true revolutoinaries in this space actually doing the work.. we got one last great visionary as far as i can see left.. .. me... lol.. and these people if they don't make quick money like you'd make from the mob or organized crime they consider you a failure.. Can you imagine that? How desperate and inept you have to be as a human to think that way, lol.

I stopped believing in the 10,000-hour rule because I don't think you can properly time a person's success. Then again, what if that field just isn't it? I believe in effort and foresight. Pick the right business model that is futuristic and run with it, no matter what.

Let's be honest, not every business is going to have relevance in 5 or even 10 years. That's the only way to get that big break. But this is entirely IMO
