Families Can Thrive On Hive...

Story time once again....

I started my journey on the blockchain in December of 2017.

And what a journey it has been. I've been in love with everything about this place, from start to finish it's become a part of my life, my business and my career. I see a day where Hive and the layer two platforms on chain are the gold standard for Web 3 and so much more.

I've brought my business and community over to this tech and have no plans of slowing down :)

I was reading a post by @bitcoinflood earlier today where we made an amazing point...

We need to start treating these tokens that we are accumulating like assets. The post hit a chord with me because it's something I never really think about when I come and engage on the blockchain, but in the back of my mind...it makes sense.

What are we doing here?

Trying to change the world? Absolutely!

Trying to change industries? I know I am for sure!

But something else that is becoming a by product of our time here is that it's changing lives!

You read about it all the time, from people that are seeing entire fortunes changes because they showed up here and added value to the community. The hard work pays off for those that do, put Hive first!

So back to 'story time' I joined the chain and gave myself 5 years.

5 years to see how it went. I would put my all into this stuff, and focus completely on building my stake, my reputation and my influence on chain. Part of the 'deal' I made with myself was that I would never power down until at least, December 2022 rolled around.

Heck, to be honest, I never thought I would power down because again, I see a future where we all live off the amazing rewards we get not only on Hive but those awesome layer 2 communities and tokens as well.

But something has come up....

And I'm having a REAL hard time deciding what to do lol

I know, I know...It's my stake, I can do with it as I please but you have to understand the kind of person I am. When I say I'm going to do something, I stick with it. I'm stubborn to a fault, but here's the situation....

My family and I have an opportunity to secure something, 5 years ago, I would have NEVER thought could be possible because of the situation I was in. Long story short, in December 2017, I had next to nothing. I lost my business, lost my home, boo hoo , sad story everyone has them...In those (almost) 5 years now, I've literally...Been able to rebuild from scratch within this community! Rose from the ashes as they say and because of Hive, I'm slowly building back to 'normal'...Whatever normal is..lol!

But this opportunity, can really help my family fully recover from losing it all almost half a decade ago.

Hive SAVES lives. It really does. I'm living proof of it!

So I'm not sure exactly when, but there is a strong chance I will power down to get some liquid Hive for a week, maybe 2. This would allow my family to once again, get back to normal and after the journey we've been on...I owe it to my wife and kids, to get back on our feet!

On one hand...I'm feeling guilty. I promised myself and even the Hive community that I wouldn't power down at least until my 5 years was up...But @bitcoinflood 's post today really helped me with my decision. You see, what we are building here is meant to change our lives!

So on the other hand, I'm happy to think back of my journey so far and realize that the effort I put in, with the support of the community and my CTP partners...I am able to get my family back to 'normal'.

I guess I wanted to make this post for a few reasons...

First that people didn't think I was taking off if I start a power down for a few weeks.

Second, and more importantly, to thank each and every one of you that has helped me on this journey. My family and I are so grateful for all the support you have shown. I one thing I promise, God willing, I'll be here for another 5 years and more to tell the world how amazing this blockchain truly is!

I still remember in the old days we would have these posts where people showed what they were able to buy with the tokens that they earned. Powerful stuff back in 2016/2017 and a good reminder that this is all real.

It is fascinating to see how Hive is changing people's lives. We are all together on this journey. I feel it is just the beginning, we have a long way to go. I do think we will keep hearing amazing stories about how Hive impacts our lives and find a way to move towards financial freedom.

Wow, your story for losing everything and building it back again thanks to the Hive network is brilliant! I remember registering here, back in 2017, and definitely I was not aware of the possibilities and future growth of the network. If I was more active during these years maybe my account would be a lot powerful now. I remember there was a time when I almost stopped writing posts and giving much attention to Hive, but in the recent year my activity here was huge and I’m really starting to see the “fruits” of this successful run.

Anyway, congratulations for your hard work again!

You did great regardless, I also promised myself that I won’t power down my Hive till Hive gets to $5 or above but then, life can be unpredictable, nobody knows the future.

I feel your pain. I don't like delving into my crypto holdings at all. Im a hodl'er, lol.

Unfortunately, my business also fell upon hard times. We made it through Covid, then a fire devastated my raw materials supply. Like you've said, "boo hoo."

I had to cash out some, but as soon as it's back to normal, I'll be back on the 100% Hodl Train!

I think you are doing right. What's the point of staking and holding forever if you can't use some in rainy days and emergencies? I feel in that context some of the time you have to take out to meet your needs. I would do the same if I had that scenario. I have to also agree that one has to put in effort to be in this position eventually.

That's why Bitcoinflood's post hit me! What's the point....Are we just sitting here looking at things, and watching it grow...Or do we actually use it for every day life!

I'm not the one to advise anyone here, I'm not the one to say ... do or don't. But what I have learned in my journey it is;

We think about the future so often that we sometimes forget about the present. You live now, tomorrow is not a certainty. If you can secure something NOW with a small powerdown, then I would say to do it, because here too ... tomorrow is no certainty.

I believe in the long term of crypto, but I also definitely believe in making your life better now if you have the resources to do so.

My family are not actively using Hive, but I have set up accounts for my kids that are earning from curation. They can have whatever those make. It's more lucrative than any savings account. I just wish I could have done it earlier. Imagine what they could make from birth to 18!

I actually did set up a few accounts for my kids and have been slowly putting some HBD in their savings...That's exactly my thought...Imagine what those accounts will be like at 18 years old lol

I live with the mindset that working shouldn't be a sentence and that you should be able to realize dreams, goals, etc. for yourself and your love ones. I'm not telling you what to do, but whatever you do with a clear conscience should be alright.

Hope all is well 😊.

Best post ever for a number of reasons. People including myself have seen your dedication and passion along with your value you have brought to hive. Your asset growth as you built your assets and so yes you should cash out if something comes up you feel is the right move. I fully support that and that's why we do what we do here on Hive. We help it grow because we own stake in it but it's still gotta pay the bills and so forth.

The one thing I don't like seeing is someone that comes on to the platform and cashes out 100% or even over 80% of their earnings and just repeats doing it on every post. To me that looks like someone not really committed to helping Hive grow and instead they are simply recycling content to cash out and make a few extra crypto bucks. I've seen people with huge potential get upvoted like wild when they first come on but after they see they are cashing out everything it quickly stops.

I also thinks it's great that you made a point about why you power down. As for the community all we can see if your wallet and when all of a sudden you see a massive dump power down you go hhmmm lol But a post like this is a VERY powerful thing and it doesn't even need to go into detail about why. I also feel like that's what Witnesses should be doing, projects that run on hive etc. Instead of asking for tons of money out of the DAO write updates, progressions etc and have the community vote and help that project if they want through your updates. When it's radio silence you start to wonder. Keep growing, keep contributing but also take care of yourself and family first because honestly no one else is going to. As selfish as that sounds it's the truth of the world we live in but through hive we have a bit of transparency and can understand when things come up and why people do what they do and in that we can all support each other. Keep crushing it!

Thanks man, yeah that was my thinking...I didn't want people to see my account power down and start asking if Jongo was fleeing the scene lol Literally just a week or two of liquidity to be able to get the funds I needed for this big move with my family.

Appreciate the post you made man, it really helped me make the final decision lol Cause wow, I was sitting here for weeks...Debating with myself lol

Your story of how you rose back up is amazing. So no, don't be guilty of powering down. Life happens as they say and the fact that your Hive account that you worked on for 4-5 years can help you with something that your family needs, you should be proud and feel good about it :)

You don't have to feel guilty. It's your work, and your money.
2 weeks of a powerdown is not too bad.
I had to power down due to the fact that
I quit my job and still had to pay the bills.
My original plan was a few weeks, and ended up taking more than
half of what I started out with but that's OK.
Because I know I now have the opportunity to put it back (with Listnerds
among other things).
Your story sounds very similar to mine.
You're a fighter and you got back on your feet, and then some.

There have time times where I have sold HIVE and STEEM while it was high, now is not that time, it's grow time. Is it now or never? I don't think so, the best is yet to come.

My family and I have an opportunity to secure something, 5 years ago, I would have NEVER thought could be possible because of the situation I was in.

Sometimes those rare opportunities show up and you must jump on them right then. I hope you are able to leverage the "security" and that it's a blessing for you and your family for many years to come.

I think the fact that you built yourself up from losing a home and a business in 5 years to a position where you have 123k in HP is just gobsmackingly awesome!

I saw your post about your Hive goals and was very much inspired! I know I am still just a small fry, but my growth has been exciting. From 313HP at January 1st, to 400HP in 3 months, 500HP 30 days later and 600HP another 18 days after that, there is no telling what is next!

In that time I have also been able to save and invest in different things on the blockchain as well as help out the budget when we had a car breakdown.

Now I am faced with another of such months: My son's birthday as well as helping family that are in dire need. Could I do that with my day job? Nope!

Can I do it now? Indeed I can! Even if it sets my savings goals back a bit, I CAN still do it!

As you know, I lost everything too, and it took us about 5 years to recover from that as well. I have no shame admitting that for a long time I had to cash out a lot or everything even in my first year due to debts hunting us. I worked damn hard for those rewards though, I was VERY committed and I have no shame for those times I did it.

You, my friend, are adding value every day, and therefore you should never feel bothered to power down a bit when this is what your family needs. You aren't even speaking about a full power-down but just a few weeks. But even so, I know that you will get back into BUILD mode quickly even when you have to take out more than these few weeks.

Personally, I can't imagine starting a Hive power-down now as I have never been able to make it to dolphin hood and that's really my focus now, especially now I had the feeling of how it feels to be one of the top stakeholders in Listnerds.

But if there was ever the need to do so, I'd feel no shame for it, you know very well that you add value and are trying to make Hive better by doing so, therefore you are excused lol. Those are my two cents :)
